I remember a custom Nurgle Lord on bike was for sale (I think the buy it now was $35). After building a Death Guard army for a while, I realize it was an absolute steal and I curse my life every time I remember not buying it.

only regrets I have is on those items I did not have the money to get.

Thinks Palladium books screwed the pooch on the Robotech project.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Not on ebay but at a car boot:

This woman was offering a large job lot of space marines, grey knights, Eldar, Tau, SoB, Tyranids and a couple of other things for only £60! There was at least a couple of hundred quids worth of stuff there! Unfortunetly I had already bought a couple of things (and a hotdog) so I only had £30 left, I managed to grab all the space marines (command squad + two tactical squads + terminators + bikes + land speeders) for £20 and vowed to come back early next week with another £40. Got there the next week and... Someone had snatched them after I had left.

From that moment on I always carry some extra notes to a car boot, but I have never seen as good a deal since. :(

I wish I had bid a little bit more on a daemon army that went up for sale with codex et all. I was beat by about 4 dollars :|

I think it had a soul grinder, some khorne hounds & juggernauts, bloodletters, plague drones, and the codex, I think a daemon prince as well.

To be honest, I never regretted such a thing. Assuming the buy to be a fully painted model.

I like to paint my own models and try to keep colours consistent throughout the entire army. A friend of mine has a large collection of LOTR miniatures from GW. All units and characters bought through online auctions, a big chunk of it all by different painters/sellers. He doesn't mind, as he has neither the patience nor the time to collect, assemble, and then paint them himself. He barely even gets any gaming time in. I do see, however, the vast differences in colours, styles, and even simply quality of the paint job. Some have painted eyes and teeth. Others have a thick glob of semi-pink where a face should be. He has four units of plastic High Elves, all with blue robes and cloaks. Within two of those units the blue colours aren't even consistent.

On the other hand, being an assembler/converter myself, I never really looked for unpainted models and conversions. Sure, I saw a few lots of unpainted or stripped Space Marines and such, but not something like that uber-bad Nurgle Bike Lord mentions by the OP. Paintless, no less. I do get Ebay single bits and sprues, though. And I shop around for other bits online. You can see one such example in my (now very small) gallery.

There was an unassembled, still in box, old style land raider that went for a steal.

Otherwise, no. Not really. If I could talk myself out of a purchase, I really didn't need it.

Yes. Bits packages that include all you need to create a set of options, for instance, for a vehicle.

Somebody awhile back posted a lot of 7 or 8 forge world tyranid hive tyrant heads that was from left over stock from FW that some guy had taken home and left in a box of some such. The pics all showed really nice scults with that pretty distinct plasticy grey resin I have gotten from other FW model.... I think it sold for like 35 bucks...

Man I wish I got those heads. So good for conversions.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Wow that would make me sick. A super discounted, assembled primed army? I would have paid $80 for that too, damn.

yes some rare oop models that weren't really that pricy, or valuable now. But its just hard to get hold on them when you want to.

Yes ... and no. I've been outbid by £1 before, but I've reached my limit. If I had bid another £10, how would I know the other bidder wouldn't simply have bid another £11, and so on?

But there have been several offers that I've said: "Oh, must bid on..." and then forgot.

Yeah, this is something important to remember about ebay. The bidding system only increases by a small increment above the second-highest bid. The other person might have bid $1,000 more than you, but the final sale price is only $1 more than your last bid. It's probably not a case of "if only I'd bid $1 more I would've had it", all adding $1 to your bid would have done is make the other person pay $1 more to get the item. The only time a small additional bid wins the auction is if it happens to be the case that the other person's submitted bid was only slightly higher than yours, but you have no way of knowing if that's what happened.

And this is another thing. Bids with more than 5 seconds left in the auction mean nothing. The ideal strategy is to pick your number and submit it at the last second. Having the highest bid hours/days before the auction finishes doesn't mean that you were ever close to winning, it just means that you fell for the trap of bidding too early.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

People that bid too early make me furious. All they do is drive up the price, with no chance of ever winning it (unless they bid up some absurd price).

There is one I regret. It was actually a pretty decent modeling job, suggested by the seller as a counts-as Land Raider Redeemer. It was a dreadnought riding a motorcycle. Sounds crazy, but it was kinda cool.

Very often.

When I started to get back into the hobby, there was a nearly complete range of Hirstarts molds up for bidding. After the price went past 100€, I discarded it. It sold for ~110€. Some months later, I looked into terrain building for real and saw the prices for new molds. Regret it to this day.

I never bid, only use buy it now. Then I just use patience and wait until I happen to come across what I'm after at a reasonable price, generally under the usual with any luck.

I bid my max amount earlier than the end if it's ending at a time I know I won't be available to monitor it. I've lost too many things I wanted because someone blasted a bid at the last second.

I think about how high I'm willing to go for an item, and as the last minute ticks down, I'll even outbid myself if I'm the high bidder, to preempt people who are trying to blast it in the last 10 seconds.
