So I'm trying to come up with a scheme for my Tyranids and not being much of a painter I'd welcome some input as to colour combinations and paints I could use to achieve a good quality scheme.

I've done some searching around as I'm not yet sold on any particular scheme, but thus far I'm thinking of the following:

Dark armour plating with the blue highlights on the edge http://awakenrealms.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/IMG_3316-1024x675.jpg

A dark reddy colour for the primary skin areas of the beasty, similar to the reddy brown of the brighter parts of this beasty http://awakenrealms.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/1001292_583042958413901_1611338978_n.jpg

Blades/spikes/claws/teeth in a bone colouration (so the yellowy white colour)

Weapons and details as well as eyes I've not yet really decided on a possible colour; I'm also not sure if I want to pant the bone areas of the carapace (eg ribs) different to the main "skin" areas of the arms and body. There's also pipes/tubes and other details (exposed brains) to pick out in a stronger, brighter colour I feel (dark body brighter details).

I'd appreciate any help on the matter

Anyone got any views - trying to pick out paint colours is a near nightmare - esp as GW now has not only tricky names but also a legion of alternative paint types and mixes on the market.

That'd probably be a darker red on the fleshy parts, washed with Druchii Violet to darken it like that. You can likely start with a dark grey on the carapace, so you have something to darken it to with something like nuln oil. The edge highlights can be done with either a light blue or a light grey.

What kind of red might you suggest for the base coats for the fleshy areas.

Also I kind of want to bring the ribcage out more so; either highlighting it differently or even going for a different colour instead of just a "skin" red going over all the lower body and arms.

You could start with Mephiston Red, and apply an incomplete coat of Evil Sunz Scarlet, and once you lay on the wash just lightly drybrush on some more evil sunz to give the lighter shade.

As to the ribcage, you could take it even lighter on a highlight with Wildrider Red maybe.. that'd give it a brighter red for certain.

Aye but the only bones I know of that are red are those in the Mars Attacks film It just seems a good colour for skin but a bad colour for a more bony/armour section of the tyranid. Bit I don't want to mimic the back armour in colour on the front.
