Hey dakka, I am currently playing with this DE list, at least as a way to make sure I have a guideline to get stuff painted.
Some of the stuff in here is just for fun and because I like the model, or because I think its cool, but hopefully I can still stand up to mid tier lists.

Problem with the grotesquerie is those big guys are only Ld4 so you really need a character to join them. The first one is the formation's haemonculus but the other one should be the CAD's HQ. Otherwise if you suffer a casualty in the shooting phase they run away, if they lose a combat they can be easily wiped out completely, they always lose a fear test.... I typically stick a succubus with them, but the archon can be nice too. About the other formation you should add an ichor injector which is only 5 points more expensive than chain flails but way more useful. I also prefer haywire blasters on scourges but many players think about the opposite, so it's really up to you honestly. I'm not even a fan of 5 man units of kabalites with any upgrades, just the second splinter cannon on their venoms must be taken, i'd save the points to field as many min units of reavers jetbikes as possible. List is good overall, the only real critique i can find is the lack of an HQ in one of the grotesques units.

Eh, I haven't noticed the lack of an HQ, mainly because they are part of the HC, so they get that sweet T2 fearless, T1 with the haemi.
Without the upgrades on the Kabalite, I save 90 points, which is quite a bit, but I can't think of another use for the 90 points. maybe a few reavers? But It's still not enough for 2x 3 with CC.

You're right, with the HC you're fearless till turn 4, i didn't thought about that, but that lonely archon isn't scary in close combat, and destroying a venom is easy even with the 2+ invuln so when it happens the archon is dead. In order to field 2x3 reavers with CC you can only drop the archon's venom and stick the HQ to the grotesques. Also if you cut the nightmare doll you have the points to play 3 more reavers with CC, a unit of 3 and a unit of 6 if you use a CAD or 3x3 with the Dark Eldar detachment. The nightmare doll is nice but it doesn't worth 35 point in my opinion. I'd also find the remaining 5 points to equip the talos with the ichor injector, cutting one sail maybe, after all most of the times the extra movement granted by the sails is not needed, raiders are fast enough.

All good points.
I think if I drop the archon's venom, You bring up a good point about his CQC prowess, I'll replace him with a succubus, its cheaper and I only like the idea of an archon (fluff wise) if he is in his own venom.
I find the nighmare doll to be great in the dark artisan, 3+ FNP re-rolling ones is awesome, with the 2+ look out sir to a meatbag pain engine, but I can try it without the Nightmare Doll.
Sadly I only have 6 reavers, hopefully that'll change when I get my paycheck, I can practically feel Gangs of Commoragh calling me...

Well your list was good overall, we're talking about details actually  Gangs of Commorragh calls every dark eldar player, the standard reavers box is awfully overpriced
