I am a Daemon player and was planning on getting the new LoC model, but then it occurred to me that the LoC will be as big as Magnus (they are both on the 100mm base).
I have a dilemma about all the extra bits the LoC kit will have since it also makes Kairos (who should never have been made that large)

My plan was to get the LoC, then use the Kairos bits to update my current LoC/DP/Kairos:
Spoiler:

But the bits may be too big and look goofy if I replace the head with Kairos heads. I might work and I would continue to use that model as Kairos or my Tetrad Tz Prince

I guess my question is: Should I just get Magnus instead and magnetize his head? I could easily make a bird head and have the model be dual use.
With the right paint scheme (magentas and very dark blues, almost black), I may even be able to use him as a D-Thirster if I also reduce some of the Tz iconography

I have no doubt that the Magnus/LoC combo would work, but what do you think about the D-Thrister combo? I could use the "nipple horns" to convert a BT looking head.

The pheonix heads from the high elves fit onto magnus perfectly. I made mine from Magnus just before the plastic lord of change was announced, don't regret it because I'd rather have a more unique one to lead my daemons.

As for the D-thirster, he also comes with a sword hand so perhaps you could magnetise that and change the staff into an axe as well.

How large a game do you normally play? How competitive?

Both are very nice looking minis from a modeling/painting POV. But which would be more likely to see the table? I’d guess the LoC. It seems you need to bend over backwards to shoehorn Magnus into a list. Not that it can’t work, but it seems the LoC would be more generically useful.

Take with a grain of salt, I don’t play demons (one of the guys at the FLGS does, and I was chatting with him when Big Red came out about lists)

@n0t_u: Yeah, I have seen your phoenix head model and I love it.
I'd like to eventually run Magnus, but I don't think I would run him often enough to full on get the model....unless it is triple use as Magnus/LoC or a D-thirster.

I use to have all 4 Greater Daemons:
Spoiler:

But when the Tetrad was released and with each plastic GD kit that comes out, they look more and more like really good Princes for a Tetrad and too small to be GDs

No, you are right. The LoC would be used more. If I am not running a Tetrad, a LoC and/or Belakor are my go-to big bads. With the Oracles formation, I will probably start using FW & a LoC
I'd be happy with a LoC made out of Magnus considering the size of the new kit. I am just brain-storming whether or not the extra $15 would be worth having a model that could occasionally be used as Magnus or a D-Thister, and particularly what magnetization/paint scheme would be required.

As far as getting him into a list, I could easily proxy 20 cultists and a Sorcerer. Or since I've used the Tetrad already, I could that the Formation with Magnus and 3 DPs

The easiest way to get magnus in is the rehati war sect, so that's a "tax" of 3 exalted sorcs or 3 daemon princes as well. Both of which have to be level 3, so it's not cheap. But iron arm etc at least.

Yes and no. As a Tetrad player, I'm no stranger to Flying circus, but if I were to run Magnus, I would want more bodies on the ground, so I would probably just take the 2 units of cultists and 1 Sorcerer with familiar. Then have my Daemon CAD with Belakor and horrors, with a Heralds Anarchic formation

So here's a reverse question. How hard would if be to use the LoC kit as Magnus?
It's clear that Magnus can be made to look like a LoC with a simple head swap, but what about the other way around?
I suspect that since Magnus is a special character, it isn't so easy to believe he could alter his appearance so easily

At that point, it may just as well just make the LoC as-is and use him as a "counts as" Magnus. I think I'll that that to the Discussion sub-forum thou.

Edit: After a bit of brain-storming, I think the best option is to get the LoC model and paint him in Magnus paint scheme (which I like anyway)
Then I can call him "Sungam the Scarlett" or some such play on words. When I want to use Magnus's rules, I can just say "Sungam" is a powerful LoC, in the same vein as the Forge World LoC character

Thanks for helping me think that out!

Who cares what others think if you think it's cool go for it. My Space Marine army is heavily converted because I think it looks cool.

Darn it!
I thought I had it figured out, then I start looking more at n0t_u's LoC made from Magnus and found the Phoenix head on eBay for $5
If the new LoC is gonna be big no matter what, I may as well just get Magnus. That way if I play it as Magnus, it is technically the Magnus model so I could paly it in a tourney.

But on the other hand, the LoC model will have extra bit I can use on my Kairos/LoC conversion.

Ahhhgg! I am so conflicted. Hopefully someone will post a size comparison of them soon. If the LoC is noticeably smaller, I might get back on track with that one for easier storage.
