Love the model. But those horn nipples are just RIDICULOUS! And not the good kind! It's just... They have this lovely model, and two big ol' horns sticking straight from his chest! HE HAS HORNS ON HIS HEAD!

Bluh.

Anyone else have thoughts on that?

You don't need to put them on. They're easily ignored. Problem solved.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The issue is, it's not my model. It's my friend's model, and he did add them.

'Sides, it's mostly just a minor rant. I'm more a Nurgle man, so so long as Mortarion doesn't have dumb horn nipples, I'll be good for my own models.

This. Don't put them on, and if there's a gap, fill it with greenstuff.

Then it's his model. I might not like the paint scheme of my friend's Tau, but they're their Tau, their model.

There's something that I believe lots of people miss with Magnus, and this is that the chest-horns are very fitting of the model; and not just because of the artwork done on the model!

Magnus is the master of Magic, but Magic has a long history of arcane symbols that is rooted in mythology and context. While reflecting on this model and the chest horns, I realized that symbols of animal spirits is a common theme in cultural depictions of magic. Oftentimes, when a story involves magic, there's someone that can talk to animals, or the shaman takes on animal-like characteristics in the process of invoking magic. It's an ancient and ingrained part of our nature to feel like the "wild" world has a power beyond that of normal reason that classical civilization felt a need to emulate.

Magnus's chest horns, and indeed many of 40k's Chaos horn-symbolism, is an allusion to these wild and uncontrollable magics. While the upwards-directed horns are more commonly about champions and symbols of status like a set of antlers, the forward-directed horns of Magnus are a clear depiction of aggressive power, like a Bull.

For these reasons, I feel like the chest horns are a great artistic choice that resonate the power this character has.

I am surprised the W.W.F haven't joined PETA against GW. Those horns are a reference to the illegal ivory trade decimating the elephant and Rhino. GW is in the wrong by shameless self promoting this trade, especially with the excessive length by which Magnus can gloat his richness. In the spirit of political correctness, you can cut off those horns and either burn them on a bonfire on crush them under a road roller!!!

I'm probably biased but I didn't like Magnus' hair so I left that off. Horn nippes are ok in my books though.

If you think about it, the nipple horns would be a huge disadvantage to live with. Besides struggling with lower back pain due to their weight, it's something an opponent could grab onto to twist the bearer.

Horns like this might be fine on an Ox, which can charge and has an immense amount of bulk to back that up, but on a warrior supposed to be campaigning across the galaxy - it's just plain unrealistic.

Leaving them off might represent the logic choice Magnus himself might have made.

I like his set of quad horns. They're weird. Chaos has to be weird, I'm pretty sure there's a contract or patent that says that.

Having taken a look, it seems that despite some good attempts, the rhino still isn't extinct in 40k, but I find it very troubling that people are encouraged to shoot at rhinos.

Ya my buddy hates the nipples too actually. But I find it odd because imo the nipples are the coolest part of the model. I love it. To me it's just weird and bizarre in an awesome/mysterious way. Kind of like this dude is so badass and above everyone that he has weird horns on his chest that nobody else has for some arcane reason we cannot comprehend, and still looks like a boss with them. Magnus is so fly that if anyone tried to pull off his style they would look absolutely moronic. But when Magnus does is he spanks you so hard you end up looking like is bitch!

Ahriman on the other hand is pretty cool being exiled and stuff. But Magnus makes Ahriman look like a Victoria's Secret model. I bet Ahriman put a lot of thought into his outfit, probably took inspiration from the big man himself. Probably Ahriman wishes he could pull off the chest nips like Magnus can, but he has to settle for wavy antler horns and some earrings.

In the fluff Ahriman once tried to wear nipple horns but Magnus forbade it. God knows why. Anyways it was the beginning of their tense relationship and disagreements, ultimately escalating to exile.

One theory is that tzeench gave Magnus his nipple horns because there are some futures in which Magnus dies in combat due to a particular strike to the chest. Having the horns protects Magnus in just the right way from that possible future.

Tldr: I love magnuses nipple horns. They are mysterious and bizarre in an awesome way. Ahriman is jealous.

Ever since I first saw the model I've started wearing horns on my nipples every day. At first I got some weird looks but when I said I was trying to look like Magnus everyone was cool with it.

I don't care for them much either. Then again, I left the vast majority of the armor off my Magnus. Just the stuff on the wings and the arm. He's a big naked monster.

I was thinking the exact same thing, every part of that model is great apart for the nipple horns.

That said, I've never really liked Magnus' design. I always thought he looked more like some fantasy barbarian king than a sci-fi sorcerer in command of a legion of post-human soldiers.

I have not yet. Nor do I especially want to, unless I pick up some Anti-Air things.

He is, however, in the display case at my local GW. Amazing paint job, done by a friend-but god DAMN those horn nipples!
