Lots of questions guys, please bear with me.

So my friend and I have settled on a 4K Apoc game. We are going to use a 6x6 board, aaaaand thats about as far as we have gotten. I am going to download the Apoc rulebook tonight when I get home but for now was hoping to get some more ideas.

So we want to make it special/fluffy, as we sorta realised that a straight up KP game is heavily weighted in my favour (Necrons) while a maelstrom game is weighed in his favour (40-50 man psuedo-fearless IG ObSec blobs vs no ObSec). We both want do do a different type of mission, something that simulates a large scale battle.

I had an idea of deploying 2k points each, and then having 500 odd points arrive every turn (this could be random aswell, i.e we have a predetermined chart that we roll on each turn). The idea behind this would be that it is reinforcements arriving as requested on his side, while I could have my judicator battalion arrive to force the O/lord into retaking X objective as the O/lord was getting out of line etc.

Additionally, we were thinking that since my 'Crons are the Nihilakh dynasty and they are a very secluded dynasty, we want to do an attacker/defender type of idea, with maybe his IG setting up a forward operating base on a Nihilakh tomb world without realising as such, and me coming in to reclaim it.

Is there any game types that have either of these mechanics? Kinda hoping there is something in the Apoc book, would be handy.

Also, do Apoc games work well straight KP or Maelstrom? Or should we blend both or have neither and use an alternative idea?

Finally, he has just got the latest book with Belisarius Cawl and Saint Celestine. He is probably going to use the models but he also wants to use the random charts that that book has to influence the game. I haven't read it yet, but have seen the review and batreps from MWG. It appears to be very psyker heavy in its influence in a battle with very few psykers. It looks like a ton of fun, and I certainly do want to play it, but I feel it is going to overcomplicate an already complicated game. Should we include it?

Thanks in advance guys!

The GW version Apocalypse book is actually awesome. Use those missions and rules for scoring. It came out just before 7th and maelstrom but it's a good middle compromise.

Everything scores, and you score by closest model regardless of distance (3" or 10" whatever), also you score at the scheduled breaks, which might seem like a funky mechanic bit it's absolutely necessary. Plan out your day and your meals/breaks (have food ready) and have an idea how long you want each turn to go.

The new Warp Storm cards, I forgot the name, would be pretty fun to add, however they do seem like they'd be 'more' fun if both sides had psykers.

The Apoc book also has some nasty and devastating rules like "unnatural disasters" that we generally save for later rounds if we need to speed things up and kill off more models.

Apoc is great fun, take pictures! ...here is the final leg (part 3) of our last mega Apocalypse: http://atticwars40k.blogspot.com/2014/11/apocalypse-on-ordel-v-final-assault_19.html
