At my FLGS a fellow Chaos player informed me that no matter how many Exalted Sorcerers I have in my army, the Lord of the Silver Tower rule only allows for a single Exalted Sorcerer to use the coruscating beam. Not each Exalted Sorcerer to use the ability once per battle, based upon the wording of the rule "Once per battle, instead of firing in the Shooting Phase, an Exalted Sorcerer can call down ...". His arguement is based upon the using of the word 'an' and if another word had been used such as 'any' or 'the' it would be a different story.

What is the way this should be interpreted?

Each model has the ability once per battle. It is exactly the same as Chapter masters in space marine codex.

Rules for a model are only for that model unless stated otherwise. For one Exalted Sorcerer using the attack to stop another from being able to there would need to be verbiage explicitly stating it. Something to the effect of only one Exalted Sorcerer in your army can make this attack.

It's amusing because his assertion that that by using "an" means it can only be used once at all, is not grammatically correct.
It clarifies it must be an exalted sorcerer, not a sorcerer, aspiring champion, or other generic psyker.

In fact if it had used "any" it may have strengthened his case, that if you have 5 exalted sorcerers, any one could call down the ability, but only once per battle.

I've yet to run against a TS army, is it common to have more than 1 in an average list?

I run 1-3 depending on points. The war cabal allows multiple as a core. Can run 3 with magnus, same formation that won a 40k GT. Great for summoning, but gotta be on discs.

war cabal is a TS formation/ cyclopea cabal is BL. Exalted sorcerors have Mark of Tzeentch standard, so can be taken by TS, Black legion or vanilla chaos.
