Subject: SM Chapter Relics in Castellan's of the Imperium

Just checking to see if I've missed anything in the many rules to cross reference. I don't believe you can give space marines characters taken as a part of a Castellan's of the Imperium detachment chapter specific relics from the Angels of Death supplement. Such as the Hunters eye or Gorgons Chain, Is this correct? I take this from the following: In angels of death it states that you can designate any detachment with the space marine faction to be a specific chapters detachment. Then under the relics it says they can be taken by models in detachment belonging to specific chapters. The Castellan's of the Imperium detachment doesn't have a symbol showing which faction it belongs to and thus isn't a space marine detachment. Let me know your thoughts.

Castellan's uses the corresponding data slates of each respective codex. This being said you would pick a chapter tactic that would apply to all applicable units from the detachment with the Space Marines faction. Then you could take any relics for that chapter for their rules.

Each dataslate and unit must be assigned to a chapter and you can't mix chapters in a detachment (this come from C:SM) and this works fine for choosing a chapter and having units from it as part of the castellans detachment.
The issue come when taking relics from Angels of Death, you only have permision to choose them if you are part of a detachment designated as a Particular detachment via the rules in AoD and those rules require it to be a Space Marine faction detachment to do so.
The Castellans of the Imperium isn't one, don't get me wrong I think this is likely just semantics and I would really like to choose the hunters eye but I don't think the RAW supports it.

Technically, the various "Chapter detachments" just say that they must be "Any Detachment with the Space Marines Faction".
Of course it later goes on to clarify that the, for example White Scars Detachment, is still a "Space Marines Detachment".
So the real question, which is unanswered in Fall of Cadia, Is what faction is the Detachment?
The Castellans could be All Factions chosen, Armies of the Imperium Faction, or No faction on the detachment level with only the units having their own factions.
Only the First option would allow for AOD Chapter detachments.
Best bet is to discuss it with your usual group, not that it is really that OP.
