Quick question on dealing damage vs. units with 1 wound models:

If a weapon does 2 damage, do I take 1 save or 2? We aren't sure if doing more than 1 damage only applies to models that have multiple wounds.

Our first thought was to roll all damage (in the case of d3 and d6 etc) before making saves. Is this correct?

the way damage goes is like this

Roll to Hit, Roll to Wound, Save Roll, Damage, Extra Saves.

So if I attack you with a weapon that deals 3 Damage you take a single save for each successful hit. So say I get 3 hits and you make 2 saves. The unit now takes 3 Damage. If its a unit of single wound models then 3 models are removed as casualties.

Now if you have a special rule that lets you discount wounds then you would throw your additional saves here. So keeping with the example. you have an ability to ignore wounds on a roll of a 6. You would now throw 3 dice, one for each Damage from the failed save throw.

Thanks a lot, that is a very clear explanation and I wish they had put that in these core rules.
