Subject: Which Space Marine faction should I pick?

I know, I know there's loads of these going around but I just need a hand, or more preferably someone to pick one for me, as since getting back into the hobby there's nearly a separate codex for each chapter and I'd rather not have to read through every single one before choosing.
I didn't even plan on collecting SM but... it just kind've happened! I've managed to accumulate 10 termies, 15 or so normal marines, a captain and a dreadnaught(mostly all from AoBR) and I've just ordered the Dark Vengeance box so more on the way!
Being Irish I was thinking of doing a celtic themed marine chapter and Space Wolves are probably the best basis for that but I could just use the models then base them around a different chapters rules. And that's not definite either, I'm very open to suggestions or comments like "if you don't collect salamanders you're stupid" because I don't want to look stupid!

Read the fluff! Look at the models!
The army that you choose must be an army that you like so read around about different chapters and browse the GW site to see what models you like.
Once you find some chapters you like in the fluff and some models you like the look of, get back to us and we will help you then but we can't just tell you which chapter to pick: it won't be your army and the likely hood is that you will get bored with it if you aren't as invested in the chapter as the person who suggested it to you.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Sorry should have specified but I mean which should I choose for playing with so I can use special rules and such. I'm going to do my own paint scheme and chapter name but will be "counts as" some main chapter. So I don't really care about the fluff of specific chapters as I'm going to make my own. I'm even just looking for broad overviews, like Space Wolves are melee focused but that's pretty much all I know.
The models are a good point though, I'll browse around the chapter specific ones see what tickles my fancy the deathwatch models are badass but I don't know if I want to have a deathwatch army, I think I'll review them first

It still a good idea to read into the original legions, it'll help you decide which founding chapter you want your homebrew to have come from and what geneseed imperfections your force will have.
Let us know if you see anything you like the look of though.

In today's 40k, you have no need to pick just one Space Marine faction, you can pick all of them.
All of them?
All Of Them!

Since you bought Dark Vengeance, I'd say you should look into the Dark Angels and their fluff , to see if it interests you. They're one of my favorite chapters, and have many ways you can play them on the table.

1d4chan does a decent job of summarizing:

Space Wolves are a lot of fun, but mostly rely on their Wulfen and Thunderstars in order to remain competetive. If you want the best army tactically, based off of the models you have, it's probably going to be Iron Hands - They're a great choice for new players, because armywide 6+ FNP and selective IWND makes them more forgiving, and in the right detachment you can bump that to 5+ FNP, making you very durable for a reasonable price tag.
