Hi all, I was wondering how well the Tamiya clear red applies to minis with a brush, does it go on well or is it very patchy/too thick and sticky and if so are there any other options/methods for red metallics out there that can be achieved with a brush. Before anyone says to use a wash over silver I do know about this and it does not produce the results I'm looking for.

It's tough to use to be honest. You need Tamiya thinner to get the best out of it,but be warned that even with thinner it dries really quick.I wouldn't thin it down to a wash level, just a little drop of thinner is enough. If you are talking about large areas I'd definitely suggest an airbrush, but for armour bits and pieces it will work superb.
If you are looking for a metallic red,try a basecoat of gold(any type) then go over it with tamiya clear red.

I use this. It is an airbrush acrylic paint, but I use a hairy brush. It thins well with just water. Great stuff. I do use metallic/tamiya clear for really small parts sometimes, but it is hard to get tamiya clear to go on smoothly with a hairy brush on large areas.
