I started playing in 2nd edition, thought 3rd was meh, liked 4th and 5th edition and quit when 6th edition rolled out. I play only Chaos Space Marines and I guess Chaos Demons as well because they split those armies. I am currently cleaning up my house and selling off stuff that I haven't touched in several years, some of which includes my Warhammer Fantasy army which I am not very attached too. I also have a Warhammer 40k and Warmachine army that I am tempted to sell as well. I have not played a any of these games in 8 years and don't see that changing anytime soon, nor do I have the time.

Questions:
- It doesn't look like GW is easing off their rape and pillage pricing. Does a tournament army still run near $500? Any indication that GW is ever going to make things more affordable?
- Can CSM and Deamons ally, thus being in the same force organization chart?
- Is the balance any good, or is GW still favoring SM and the most recently released army?
- Is 7th edition any good. My initial impression is that it sucks when compared to 4th and 5th editions?
- Are CSM and Chaos Deamons still designed with the mentality that random = fun and balance?
- Has GW shown any signs of actually balancing the game and trying to make it support competitive play?
- Did they change the standard Space Marine base size?
NOTE: I am a degreed engineer, therefore I can't spell and yes,

- It's pricy.
- Anything can ally with anything.
- Depends on the perspective. CSM have gotten a huge buff not long ago - making them playable at very least. Daemons are top tier.
- Depends. Personally i like 7-th way more than 5-th. Haven't played in 4, so can't tell.
- Random in one areas, reliable in another. Most of the stuff is fearless or ld10, so ld is a reliable factor. There's a bunch of random tables here and there but you can usually mitigate the random factor to acceptable levels.
- They've released a massive FAQ that solves a ton of rules issues not long ago. It's free. And they even answer some of the questions on facebook. As for the codex balance issues - they're ever present. Partially mitigated by maelstorm missions. But it's still not amazing. Not much worse than 5-th though.
- Not sure about csm but sm can have 2 base sizes. You choose.

More like $700 - $1000. You can take a deep dive on Forgeworld for units that are more expensive.

No and Yes. FOCs have changed. You take detachments these days. The BRB spells out a detachment called a CAD, which is just like the old FOC. Individual factions have their own detachments, which mostly look nothing like the FOC. You can take as many detachments as you have points for. There are some restrictions on what detachments can be in the same armies.

Basically, yes. They are starting to give some love to CSMs, and recently released the Traitor Legions Codex. it has rules for the big ones.

It's different, but it does not suck. The big difference is the new types of units: flyers, superheavies, and fortifications change the game. The psychic phase is new, and a little more interesting than the old rules. There are also these things called D weapons. They kill a lot of things.

Yes, but it's not as bad as it used to be. Traitor Legions and Traitor's Hate introduce new detachments that make them suck less. Raptors, for instance, can assault from deep strike when they are taken as part of a Raptor Talon. This has an impact on games.

Balancing the game - not really. Supporting competitive play - yes. They have been doing marketing at major tournaments and running rules changes by tournament organizers.

Yes. Don't know the measurements, but it's bigger. You can still use the old bases.
