All:
Before all of the recent Fall of Cadia releases, GW had done a very good job (at least a good job for them) of selling bundles of models for a discount (Calth, Armored Assault, etc.). I am not familiar with all of the prices on non-SM models so I was wondering if anyone knew if the new Gathering Storm armies offer a discount on the total cost if you purchased models separately?
The reason I am asking is that when I first started building my army (about a year ago) I was between smurfs and Grey Knights (I imagine a bunch of you now think I am a bad person if these were my top two possible armies; you might be right), and I eventually picked smurfs as I had purchased Calth. But, if the prior gathering storm books/releases are any indication, it looks like they might be selling some combined Smurf/GK/fallen type detachment and I am not sure if I should save up for a large purchase because the cost might be less than continuing to buy individual units. Any advice would be welcome.
Also, if anyone has any more general tips on what I should be buying next to expand upon my existing army, I would appreciate it. So far, what I have is the BAC set, Dark vengeance set (I sanded off the DA logos on shoulders so I can use the models as smurfs), and one razorback/rhino. I have magnetized all of the Cataphracti arms and enough normal marine guns to be able to turn 5 models into a command squad w/ all melta or combi melta.
My first game (and only full game so far)I ran the following (1250 points)
- Used 3 missile launcher from BAC and one plama cannon from DV as a devastator squad w a sarge. Used the termi captain to give slow and purposeful
- Used 5 marines to make a command squad with all melta or combi melta
- Razorback for command squad
- 2 tac squads with plasma guns (one 5 man, the other 7 man)
- 3 bikes from DV (opponent agreed to let me use as grav/combi-grav)
-5 cataphr terminators deep striking
- Contemptor dread w multi melta
