I took the scout Mutable Tactic.
And the space wolves were running something like the following:
2 15 man troop squads (What ever their compulsory troop is)
1 5 man Terminator squad (Their termies) all with dual claws
1 rhino with a 5 man plasman gunner squad
2 Land Raider Phobos
1 Vindicator
2 Wolf Priest
1 Centurion
5 Vets (stock)
1 Russ
1 Box dread with twin linked lascannon
Russ was with the vets and a centurion in a land raider. Termies were in a land raider. Wolf priest with each of the troop squads.
I let him deploy first then stole the initiative with a re-rollable 4+. No one had any reserves. We played Mission 6 from the red
HH book, on the deployment map that goes diagonally across the table.
Scout - I moved the melta gunner to near the vindicator
The seekers went into a forest and camped an objective
The 2 5 man recon squads made their scout move towards 2 objectives - one centrally and one in a corner.
The 10 man recon squad with the exodus and alpharius scouted to a central location, a forest between them and the wolves.
Praetor, Command Squad, and Apothecary made a scout move toward the Land Raider that was carrying the terminators.
Turn 1:
I moved the bikers up to right near the vindicator, getting 3 in the side arc and 2 infront.
Both 5 man Recon squads moved toward the objectives.
The 10 man stayed put.
The land raider still in my deployment rotated on the spot to get all 3 lascannons facing his terminator land raider.
My contemptor moved up toward his rhino.
The bikes managed to explode the vindicator - lost 1 guy from the explosion.
THe Contemptor destroyed the rhino and forced his plasma gunners to fire snap shots the following turn.
The seekers stripped 8 wounds from one of his troop squads with the ap2 ammo.
The land raider failed dismally at killing his land raider, meaning my praetor and co had no shooting targets.
The sniper squad sent a volley of shooting toward the other troop squad, killing a total of 2 guys.
Space Wolves Turn 1:
He moved his PLasma gunners up near his Terminator Land Raider.
He moved Russ' land raider centrally toward a 5 man recon squad/contemptor dreadnought. Disembarked, the consul split from Russ and his 5 vets. Russ disembarked toward the contemptor, the consul disembarked toward the 5 man recon squad in a forest.
He moved the troop squad that took a bunch of causalities into a forest for cover.
The Terminator land raider moved toward my praetor and they disembarked, leaving them a whole 1" away from my guys
THe box dreadnought advanced 6 straight toward the middle of the table.
The other troop squad stayed put so that it wasnt forced to try and charge.
In his shooting phase, he took 1 hull point and cause crew shaken to my land raider with Russ' land raider. The other land raider shot at the praetor and co on bikes - they jinked (2+ on turn 1) and lost no one. His plasma gunners ran to get closer. His dreadnought shot at the land raider and cause nothing. The troop squad that was at about half strength from the seekers shot at the multi melta bikers, killing none.
He charged Russ into the contemptor - no wounds lost from over watch. Contemptor got fethed.
He charged the half strenght troops into my bikes, 1 guy lost to over watch. Lost 2 bikes, caused 1 wound in combat, failed morale but didn't get cleaned up by sweeping advance.
His terminators charged my praetor and co - he lost 1 to over watch. The combat ended with me losing 2 of the command squad, and him losing 2 terminators - stayed engaged.
He forgot to run his Consul in the shooting phase and as such failed the charge against the recon squad.
Russ consolidated toward the recon squad with alpharius.
Turn 2:
Bikes passed their
ld check and regrouped.
Seekers stayed put.
Recon squad with alpharius and exodus also stayed put.
Land raider rotated so it could target both Russ and the Land Raider he had come from.
5 man Recons stayed put.
Shot 2 lascannons from my land raider into his, doing nothing, and shot one into Russ and his Squad, doing nothing.
Shot 5 recon marines at his centurion, caused no wounds.
Shot from my seekers into his troop squad again, killing all and leaving his priest on 1 wound.
Shot the recon marine and alpharius and co at Russ and the Vets. He came out minus 1 wound with 1 vet left.
In the assault phase my praetor killed off the remaining terminators before he had a chance to strike back.
His Turn 2:
Moved Dreadnought toward my recon squad int he middle.
Moved his near full strength troops toward my praetor and co.
Moved his plasma gunners toward my praetor and co
Turns his terminator land raider to face mine.
Moved russ to 1" away from Recon w/ alpharius
Moved Wolf Priest from Troops and Centurion together near the recon squad in the forest.
Other land raider stayed put.
Shooting he immobilized up my land raider with his (pretty sure it took both of them from memory).
He killed 1 recon marine with Russ' shooting, and another with the dreadnought lascannon.
Shot 10 plasma shots at my praetor and co - killing 1 (jinked like a sir).
His other troop squad ran toward my praetor.
Assault phase he charged my praetor and co with his troop squad.
Charged russ into the recons (also attempted and failed at charging the dreadnought into them).
Charged the centurion and wolf priest into the 5 recon marines.
Russ and the vet wiped out 6 recon marines, I wiped out 1 vet in return....
Praetor killed 6 of his troops on it's own, by the end of combat he had killed another command squad guy (the bearer, 2 wounds) and had 4 guys and a wolf priest remaining - stayed locked in combat.
Consul and wolf priest killed 4 recon marines, I killed nothing in return, died to sweeping advance.
Turn 3:
I moved my melta bikes toward his land raider.
Seekers stayed put
Recon squad over int he corner tried to get better cover from the plasma gunners.
In the shooting phase I finished off his consul and wolf priest with my seekers.
I shoot at his land raider with my bikes, miss one shot, get a pen and a glance.
Shoot his land raider with mine, get a 6 on the pen and explode it.
In the assault phase I finish off his troop squad with the praetor.
Russ kills the remaining guys in the combat he is in with the exception of Alpharius who loses a single wound. Alpharius manages to get Russ down to 4.
His turn 3:
His plasma gunners move to negate the cover I had gotten for my recon marines.
His dreadnought moved toward my melta bikers.
His remaining land raider stays facing my land raider.
He shoots my land raider with his land raider, killing it.
He shoots my bikes with his dreadnought, killing none.
He shoots my recon marines with his plasma gunners, killing all 5.
In the Assault Phase he strips alpharius down to 4 wounds.
My Turn 4:
Seekers stay put (they are camping an objective).
Bikes move to face the dreadnoughts rear armour.
Praetor and co move to right next to plasma gunners.
Shoot plasma gunners, kill none.
Shoot rear armour of dreadnought, missing all (snap shots from bike jink).
Seekers are in range of nothing.
Assault phase I charge his plasma gunners, he loses 1 to gets hot in over watch. My praetor and remaining apothecary make short work of them.
The russ v alpharius combat goes another round, Alpharius is left on 2 wounds and Russ is still on 4.
I gain 1 wound back at the end of my turn, leaving alpharius on 3.
His turn 4:
He faces his land raider toward my bikes
Moves his dreadnought to 6.5" away from my bikes (so they dont get double
AP dice on overwatch).
The land raider kills both remaining bikes.
His dreadnought charges into the russ v alpharius combat.
Russ leaves Alpharius on 1. Alpharius decides to attack the dreadnought in the hope he kills it before it gets to strike - great success he blew it up.
My Turn 5:
I move my praetor and apothecary toward the russ v alpharius combat (they cannot hurt the land raider).
Seekers stay put.
I charge into the russ v alpharius combat in the hope I can do something useful.
He directs all his attacks onto alpharius who is still on 1 wound, I fail 2 saves so he dies.
The praetor and apothecary do no wounds to Russ.
His Turn 5:
He shoots my seekers with his land raider, killing 1.
He kills both my praetor and apothecary with Russ.
My Turn 6:
I do nothing
His Turn 6:
He moves russ toward nothing in particular.
Kills 2 more seekers with his land raider - I pass the morale check. - game over.
I ended up winning 14-13 (killed 12 of his units at 1
VP each, and got 2 from the objective the seekers were camping). His 13 were form killing 10 units and slay the warlord + 2 for being a
LoW.
Russ kill count comes in at roughly 1200 points which is insane, the face he essentially makes other primarchs end up hitting on sixes after multiple rounds of combat makes him right up there as far as primarch v primarch fights go.
In HIndsight I should have ran away with the praetor and apothecary to try and make them survive instead of suiciding them.
So yeah, that is the list I ran with the little battle report (written from memory of last night, might be 1 or 2 minor things off but yeah).
Thoughts on the list/how it's play (if you can determine that from my post)?? I am not sold on 2 stock standard 5 man recon squads - seems kind of like a waste.
