Just arranged my first ever game. Even though I'm aiming for 2000 points in my army, I'd better think about what's possible for this impending game - and that's 1000 points. See what you think dudes and dudettes.....

Going with the Sternhammer, core being the Battle Demi Company comprising of:

HQ - vanilla Chaplain 90pts
Fast Attack - 1 x attack bike, HB and TL boltgun 40pts
Heavy - 3 x centrurion TLLC and Hurricane bolters, captain with omniscope, in a Land Raider Redeemer (chaplain with them) 445pts
Troop 1 - Tac Squad, 10 x marine (1 with ML, 1 with flamer, serg with power sword) 185pts
Troop 2 - Tac Squad, 5 x marine 70pts
Troop 3 - Tac Squad, 5 x marine 70pts

Taking one Auxiliary unit - a thunderfire cannon 100pts

That's 1000 points on the nose.

Attack bike is obvious tax unit for me. Redeemer is going to go solo, cents with las cannons don't need mobility!

You can take T. Fire canon without being stuffed into aux formation and still be counted as aux?

With the sternhammer I must take an Aux unit and thats the only way to get the thunderfire cannon into the list.

No, I just didn't know that Sternhammer allows you to bring particular unit/units outside of formation that can count as aux formation itsel. If i read the supplement accordingly (exploitation tab in the detachment rules) you can also bring a dev squad or a single Dred or Vindicator that can count as an aux. This is something really cool that I was unaware of.

It is a unique detachment feature for The Sternhammer, not all detachments can.

Not a bad one for small points game. Just curious what is the point of your Land Raider? Your Centurion with Lascannon has the long-range to sit at back field objective and keep shooting, so it is just an AV 14 Obsec vehicle?

Generally, I suggest either cut down the 10men Tactical squad to 5 and drop their Missile Launcher, then give three Centurions Grav Cannons so you can transport them to the centre of the table with LR and open fire. Or, you may consider drop the Land Raider, that 240pts can give you the following:
1. your Centurion Missile Laucher (30pts total) along side your TLLC and provide long-rang AT fire, this is especially good since your Centurion Devastator has Tank Hunter for being IF.
2. 3 transports (either Rhino or Droppods, 35pts each) to your Tactical Squad to get them into mid-short range to let their boltgun work.
3. special weapons to all of your Tactical Squads.
4. whatever other upgrades to your squads to fill in the rest points.

Comes in at 240 points. While it's assigned to the centurions, they wouldn't set foot in it. It'll serve more as a spearhead into the enemy, drawing fire while everyone else moves to either objectives or to attacking positions.
