After reading the Traitors Legion and 600 issues of Batman comics, I decided to put together a Night Lords army using the failed remnants of an old vampire counts force. My goal here was to make it look alright with as little strenuous detailing as possible, given my caffeinated fingers and their tendency to shuck and jive all over the place. So everything will start primed white and washed/inked down to a dark blue without doing too much additional work on trim or edging or any of that.



This is a basic raptor kit mixed with the leftovers of a terrorgheist kit. I wish I could get a whole box of these type of heads instead of the Lords' chunky winged heads.



Almost done at this point other that finishing the weapon and some spots I missed. Doing a night lords army without some of that Tamiya clear red is not a life I'd want to live. The armor is mostly just drakehoff shade with a watered down black ink laid down first to bring out some crevices. Not sure yet how gory I want the weapon to get. I was considering trying the 'string glued to weapon and covered in blood' splatter effect but not sure f that would really mesh with how a lance would spray fluids. Might just go with caked on gore. Feel free to comment and critique.

Finished him up and photographed in some natural light instead of my dank cavelike bedroom. Now that I have the paint scheme down I should be able to crank out the rank and file troops a little more quickly.

Instead of working on basic dudes I've been distracted by a model showing up in the mail. I'd been looking for an Astoroth the Grim to chop up into a Night lord for awhile; he's literally Dracula and fits in perfectly. I wanted a finecast one for ease of cutting but had to settle for a cheap metal version. Replacing his weapon was tricky, as both arms are molded to the body. I ended up replacing both forearms to get his new gear to fit, a typhus scythe and a lightning claw. He had surprisingly little Imperium iconography for a space marine HQ and his personal heraldry, a blood drop with bat wings, will paint up to look like the Night Lords skull with wings with very little modification.

Interesting idea. Just get rid of his blood drop belly button. Blood should be in real vampires' mouths, not their navels.

Naw that blood drop is gonna be shaved down to a skull, so he can have a Night Lords utility belt full of nightarangs.

I like the blue armour. Wouldn't have occurred to me to do it like that.
