So, I'm fairly new to the modeling and playing aspect of
40k, so I figured starting a blog here would be a good way to get feedback on my efforts, and with a little luck eventually start showing off some cool stuff as I improve. So with that out of the way, here's what I've got.
My captain, with a power axe I'm working on figuring out how to paint, the back torso and cape from a deathwatch box, a fancier than average bolter (usually run him with Primarch's Wrath equipped), and an anvil industry head. All my wear a helmet, namely that one (so far. If I get a chaplain, equipping him might be...fun).
Another guy who's still a bit of a
WIP. I took the storm shield off the deathwatch kit, and between some snipping and putty, modified it into it's current shape. The sword is yer another thing I haven't figured out how I'll be painting.
Some tacticals, nothing too notable about them, aside from that I use the mk 7 torso as standard on all marines.
Sternguards! They're mostly tactical parts, but with
DW back torsos, backpacks and right arms. They also use anvil combi-bolters (the actual combi parts aren't attached here), also with some other customization bits here and there.
More sternguards (or anyone else that can take a heavy flamer) and my devastator sergeant.
Some devastators. They all use this rough color scheme and layout.
And my current favorite miniature, my doomguy model (who's also a huge pain to photograph, for some reason). Anvil shotgun and shell cases, everything is
GW.
Some other notes on paint and modeling:
I'm actually going to be prying off the left shoulder to replace it with some 3D printed ones with the chapter logo on it, because I don't like the look of decals and suck at freehand.
The painting is grey primer, a base coat of gunmetal, drybrushing a layer of steel over that, brass on the shoulder pads, black on the pad rims, logo (eventually), chest symbol and cabling, and then more gunmetal on the backpack and helmet details, with a turquoise faceplate. Don't recall what brand, but it's not the
GW ones, which I don't use due to expense/bad word of mouth. I've been experimenting with washes on a couple extra/test minis, so far haven't found anything workable. I'm also thinking that a glossy black would look better than the current matte finish.
