I love the 'Black Company' books by Glen Cook and would like to create them as an 28mm army on the tabletop.
So how would I go for this?
Cook doesn't give much description for the equipment. Neither does Google.
Mail, sometimes parts of plate armour. Morion as the company helmet is mentioned.
The Widowmaker and Lifetaker armor seems to be the only full plate, but Croaker repeatedly mentions they are only for show and not really functional.
Once, there is mention of halberds.
Some similiar old threats I found were guessing at short spears and shields everyone carries.
Definitely no pikes.
So the most fitting models I could find are the
OOP Games Workshop "Pirazzo's Lost Legion".
Morion, some leather, some padded armor, some mail, some plate.
They would be a perfect fit with nearly no conversion work.
Now, they go for 150€ on Ebay. Out of the question.
So what would be a good substitute? I looked into a lot of historical miniatures, but couldn't find anything I like.
Warlord's War of Religion Infantry is way too 'puffy' for my liking. The later stuff is mostly unarmoured or in full plate. Same with other historical producers.
Two ideas I came up with:
-
FW Manann's Blades - sadly only 5 different bodies. Would get repetitive real fast.
- Perry Miniatures Mercenaries and Agincourt Infantry boxes mixed together and converted with the Warlord morion helmets.
Anyone got more/better suggestions?
