I need something to cut parts off of sprues, and I'd rather not buy GWs overpriced cutters or continue using the semi dull and imprecies cutters I have. Can anyone give me a link to something at Lowes/Home Depot/Walmart/Etc. or some other info?

I have actually found the GW ones a very good tool.

They are clearly made by someone else though if you want to track down a lower price option.

someone already did a tread on this, worth a look;

You can get them in the hobbies section of walmart. You may have to replace them every once in a long while, but they've worked fine for me.

Basically anything which doesn't approach the $25-27 USD pricetag of GW's. While GW has been making some excellent progress the past few years their hobby materials are still criminally priced.

Their brushes, glue, sand, tools etc. are all terribly expensive compared to almost any other modeling brand (even expensive ones like Tamiya).

I have some old citidel ones but there the old plastic handles.

They work fine. Not perfect but I have some files now so that's just a few minutes work.

New ones.. Pretty expensive.
Army painter seem to make good tools at better prices. There files have proved solid so far.

Gw 11 pounds for files.
Ap. 5 pounds for the files.

I have a good pair of Xuron clippers I've been using for going on 10 years now, no complaints, still work as good as the day they were new. A lot of the clippers you'll see are often rebranded Xurons.

I got some GW clippers and they're a lot better than your average hardware store clippers, but they're still not awesome and mine seem to be going blunt even though I only ever cut plastic.

Xuron cutters are usually the hobbyists choice though.

In the end you always have to cut some distance away from the model and clean up with a knife and/or some files though.

I've been using a set of Gale Force 9's heavy duty cutters for years, and they're equally adept at chopping up plastic, metal or resin. It turns out that they're rebranded Xuron 2175's, so I'll second Tannhauser42's recommendation.
