So as the title says, has anyone tried this? I'm not much of a fan of the sternguard models seeing as they seem fairly mono pose (I might bethinking of the old kit), and you have to buy two of them for a ten-man (what I want).

I was already going to use a blackstar as my counts-as Sraven and that got me thinking as to what other DW could be a good proxy. All my marines are MK4 from the calth box, and the stern are supposed to be the best of the best, where can they go with gear? I don't feel like the regular armour in the sternguard kit would really mesh - having my rank marines in 'more unique' gear would kind of water down the sterns look.

Therefore why not just use the DW kill team as an awesome conversion base - then all get MK8 and the box is full of fitting weapons. Not like its hard to make combis anyway.

On top of the awesome models there's a bit of pricing benefit too,
Two sternguard kits cost £60 while a 10 man DW kill team is only £44, for far newer and I would argue more versatile models.
Even better, the start collecting DW for £50 nets you a dread and a nicely posed character for only £6 more!

So I'm planning on doing this with my salamanders (hence the schmancy fancy armoury), but has this been done before and does anyone have pictures to share?

They differ a fair bit in their appearance; Sternguard usually have more ornate, decorative armour whereas the Deathwatch come across as more practical in equipment. Not saying it can't be done, and it'll look pretty cool, but if I were you I would just paint them up as Deathwatch and count them as Sternguard.

Yeah that's a fair point, though visually most of that seems to be the tabbards, which I'm not much of a fan of anyway. Was thinking more of a 'give them better armour underneath and they bring them to the same level of fancy myself'

Im surprised google returns nothing, though I guess the DW kit isnt *that* old

I think it may depend a little on what Chapter you are running. For example Raptors and Ravenguard may benefit from the Deathwatch bodies as they have more equipment on them befitting a elite warrior. For Ultramarine or Blood Angels their lack of ornamentation would be an issue.

Don't know if it's helpfull, but for my 2 deathwatch squads I mixed a box of deathwatch vets and another of sternguard vets. Both kits go together pretty well and they both add character to each other. Maybe get a box of each and mix the bits and pieces.
