So I'm relatively new to 40K(A few months.) and this is the 3rd version of my current list I've been toying with for several weeks so I would greatly appreciate any feedback. I've tried getting some advice on Reddit, but replies are nearly non-existent after a few tries over there. What I have gathered from this list which spread out the markerlights, added alot of burst cannons to kill more infantry and added more units(as suggested to me.) is it will have issues with Battle Cannon equivalents insta-killing everything, but Riptides and crisis suits are impractical to hold objectives even though they count as troops which was my initial intention. I do not know how to counter the first part(except for expensive shield generators.) and as for objective takers I've actually thought of allied Guardsmen(which is also fluffy as non-FW Gue'vesa.) since they're half the cost of firewarriors(with bonding knives.) and cheaper than Kroot which can't use markerlights anyway. So again all input is very welcome.

Just so everyone knows what I have to work with here's my collection below.(I'm willing to make additions as implied above.)
HQ:
Farsight
Crisis Commander
Coldstar Commander

Troops: None(Technically all my Crisis with FE Tau.)

Fast Attack:
20 Pathfinders (7 with special weapons and their special drones.)
20-30? Drones

Elites:
9 Crisis Suits
3 Riptides (1 HBC 2 IA.)

Heavy Support:
3 Broadsides (1 HRR 2 HYMP)

I know I can make CADs,Dawn Blade Contingent,Retaliation Cadre,Riptide Wing,Firebase Support Cadre,Ranged Support Cadre and VX1-0 Drone Net out of it mixing and matching. I've also read relevant FAQs on Tau/FE Tau. Worth mentioning is within a Dawnblade Contingent Farsight has to be in a Contingent Headquarters and can't be placed elsewhere.

So, your list is interesting because as I was moving down the text I was thinking, "Wow this is a really cool fluff/friendly list." Then I saw the Riptide Wing lol. People will absolutely hate playing against that. Conversely, Wing or no, it's still not competitive enough to give you a prayer against a tournament player with an optimized list. So my first question is, what tyupe of list do you want?

If you are a relatively new player and want a friendly list that can hold its own around the shop against a variety of armies, I'd recommend taking basically what you did but not running the Wing;it's just too good for casual play. If you'd rather get good fast and play a GT-style list, then I would recommend keeping the Wing and picking up either multiple Y'Vahras from Forgeworld to pair with the Wing in a CAD or a Stormsurge(s). No matter what, the Drone Net seems to be the consensus for competitive marker support. The Firestream Wing is going to get some test play competitively and the Optimized Stealth Cadre with max Ghostkeels is an interesting route as well to support your Riptides.

I'm not really concerned with tournament lists. I prefer the fluff and what I perceive as fun to use. I've watched battle reports and Taudar for example rub me the wrong way.

I know quite well the Riptide Wing is strong and Y'Vahras are insane. I watched a battle report yesterday where the Tau Player had 5 Riptides and an Y'Vahra in 2 Riptide Wings, but interestingly enough he did poorly.( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AFlO-I5J3U ) Quite frankly I grabbed the Riptides, because they were insanely cheap at $30 on eBay and I knew they were amazing, but is it really that bad compared to Super Heavies? Regardless I think I'll hold off on an MC variety spam list though it does sound fun yet expensive.I've also specifically been told to spread my marker drones out when I had a VX1-0 Drone Net in my list which is why they're with the Crisis Suits now. In detail I was told how in multiple angles I would lose them first turn and first blood with it,but spread and spammed they would be a constant threat all game.

So for changes if I drop the riptides in the list I'm thinking shield generators on every crisis to counter battle cannon equivalent insta-killing,(This might annoy people.) doubling marker drones in each crisis suit team and perhaps an allied guard detachment with CCS,and 2 squads of Grenadier Veterans all with voxes and bolt pistols to come up to 1850 if Crisis truly are bad at holding objectives. Alternative ideas are welcome of course.

Unless i'm missing something, i'm pretty sure Kroot can use the markerlight abilities if you were to want to do so. As far as I can tell the codex only says "a unit with the Tau Empire faction," so I think you'd be good if that were to change your metric at all.

Shield Gens on every Crisis suit would be very expensive. I think the best defense for Crisis Suits is more of them. It seems from your original list your group does not enforce any type of detachment limit, so why not run a double Enclave CAD. Something like this:

CAD 1

Commander

Riptide

6x1 Crisis, drones to taste

CAD 2

Commander

Riptide

6x1 Crisis, drones to taste

Formation

Ranged Support Cadre

You'd have to beg, borrow or steal a few more Crisis Suits of course, but this list would have firepower galore, MSU, plenty of markers, fun to play with/against and not too hard or squishy.

I would trade a few double burst cannon suits for double fusion but yes.

Alright I dropped the upgrades from the Broadsides, swapped two burst crisis for fusion and gave all remaining burst crisis ATS precision with the leftover points. It looks nice and tidy. Thank you.

I like the list. . . . . It's fluffy and not too competitive

The Riptide wing will give you some nice giants as a center piece as well as a strong challenge for fun games.

It's not too often I face a fun Tau list as most semester to hit quite competitive. I'd face off with this list and with my tournament list beat it every time. But with a experiment list (which is how most people I play use) it would be a challenge and fun.

My experiment lists are usually 2 formations that I'm trying out with a CAD filling out the rest of the points.

Alright so basically the initial list for a fun challenge and the reformed list for pure fun. Sounds good to me. Thanks for coming over from my introduction post btw.
