Anyone know of a reliable source to get the "battleline" units for high elves? Ebay seems like a crapshoot of half assembled or damaged goods, amazon doesn't appear to have any sellers with them...
The two "battleline" units that don't require some kind of feel-good special sub faction are no longer being produced or sold by GW....(Spearmen and Silver Helms).
This kind of stuff is really frustrating me, GW should at least make sure they're producing the basic "troop choice" for their AOS armies, or (better yet) don't take a faction like the High Elves and break them into several idiotic sub factions that can't effectively stand alone....
I really hope they decide to either relax some of these "battleline BUTONLYIF!" requirements or start producing/selling the models again...
Sorry, just wanted to rant a bit as well as pick your brains for suggestions.

I understand your frsitrations, But high elves are not an AoS army. They are a WHFB army in the compendium section of the rules for AoS. Until they move from that, with an actual release...keep hitting dakka swap swap and reddit.com/r/miniswap threads. Even message people from posts as long as 10 months and just ask!

Ehh, I get what you're saying, but if they aren't considered an AOS army, why release the "Isle of Blood" repackage as an AOS product with AOS bases and rules/warscrolls? I guess that's what really got me frustrated, because I got that set and cant really use the included forces as a matched points army as-is. The swordmasters and archmage are eldrich council, so having them in the force immediately breaks the Spireguard and Reavers from being battlelines....bah, I'll take your advice about the swap exchange threads. Thank you.

Do remember that there is the Guardians of the Dawnspire battalion, which gives the archmage and the swordmasters the swifthawk agents keyword. That means you can use them as part of a unified Swifthawk Agents matched play army, adding, shadow warriors, skycutters, and skywardens as well.

As a current rotbringers player, I share your frustration with lack of available units.I understand your frrustration is more with availability though.

Yeah I would not be nearly as frustrated if GW was still producing Silver Helms and Spearmen, that would eliminate the big source of my frustration.
Are rotbringers in a similar boat, or are you guys entirely short handed models/units across the board?

Or better yet, don't play games using Matched Play.
Problem solved!
In reality, your frustration is the fact that you're expecting a Legacy army(and let's be brutally honest, that's what "High Elves" are at this juncture) to get the same support as the individual factions that GW has broken things down into.
Spearmen and Silver Helms? They're not in the big old book for "Order". The individual "feel-good special subfactions" are.

No need to be a snot. My local game store primarily plays Matched Play, hence I prefer to play the format that is most widely supported.

I'd recommend asking your opponent to play a "points only" matched play game, or allow you to take the sub faction battleline units as battleline anyway. Most should be accommodating. I know there is a player at my local GW with a beautiful Dragon Ogor and Marauder Horseman army - if the choice is playing strict match play (which leaves him with nothing but Dragon Ogors and the Shaggoth), or playing a bit more loosely and allowing the extra units even though they technically break allegiance, I will always opt for the extra units because they make the game more fun. I am sure your opponents will feel the same.

Or you may just have to bite the bullet and go with some Freeguild, and maybe use Elf models as stand ins. I've seen an army that uses a lot of custom models as stand ins, which does work.

What about using Dark Elf Spearmen, just scratch the skull icon off the shield and change the banner poll.
Silverhelms are a bit trickier though.
