Our FLGs has been running a couple themed games lately, and the next one coming up has a limit of 500 points, with 250 points being spent on HQs. Most everyone is planning is running much more than 250, so there's no real need to go super competitive. That said, I want a list that's not grievously flawed from the get-go.

I'm bring:
Lias Issadon
Captain with artificer armor, primarch's wrath, and power axe
Chronus
Vindicator with storm bolter and dozer blade.

I'm really wanted to keep Chronus and the vindi, but the others aren't a must have (don't want to take anything in terminator though, as I don't have any).

Is it restricted to named HQs?

Otherwise, bring a plan to deal with this:

Iron Hands
Captain
Chapter Master
Cataphractii Terminator Armour
Thunder Hammer
Gorgon Chain
Combi-whatever OR lightning claw.

This pretty little fellow will come out to be approximately 180 points, and I defy you to kill him.

Not even close. Eternal warrior means he's swinging back, and frankly I've got better invuln saves (3++, rerolling 1s), feel no pain (5+), and it will not die(5+). This fight you lose, and lose hard. if i pick my warlord trait i've got even better FNP.

and frankly if someone actually has dreadknights a lightning claw would be fine too.

and my guy still joins any unit he wants. apothecaries, command squads... all possible

EDIT. I shouldn't call this my guy. It's just Smashfether. Look him up, there is a great article on 1D4chan about him.

Woah woah woah, you said ONE GUY, not a whole squad. In that case I get 3NDKs, which is how I've taken down this build before. (When everyone else in the unit dies on the first round, that makes this fella pretty squishy.)

No FnP if you get doubled out. Didn't know about the EW, that makes it harder.

NDKs have 2+sv and T6, so no, claws would be terrible. And if you're unfamiliar with the primary GK unit, the one that's more common than Draigo...then you need to play more games.

If you're net-listing (which you are, since you're pulling units from Chan), then an experienced player will trump your "incredi-build" every time.
GL with your copy-pasta.

Edit: Also, in a 500pt game, which is what we're talking about, you don't get all your bells and whistles. You get this guy and Scouts (to fulfill list building) and then you have ~260pts left. Oh and remember the requirement that you have to spend at least 250pts on HQs, so you need 70 more pts there.

I'm the only marine player, so i won't have to worry about smashf***er. Considered bringing him, but it seemed a bit unfair.

Sorcerers with Telepathy could give you some trouble. If it's just spend what you want on HQ you could easily fit 3 sorcerers in 500pts. Alternatively if someone wants to make a daemon factory in the back that'll also be very annoying.

Fair points all around. I'm not bringing him, I was just suggesting he should have a way to deal with it. Still, T6 gets wounded reliably by STR8, and AP2. I don't think taking a dreadknight magically wins this fight.

Do these teams have to conform to formations? If so, that does change things.

Shouldn't be an issue. For referance, I'm only taking marines as I only have marines, three other players are likewise limited to the one army they already own (IG, Orks, mechanius), one guy has Space Wolves and Eldar and is going with Eldar, and the last guy is running the event and is playing nids.

No, there's no need for formations, CAD, kill team unit restrictions, ect. the only rule for this match is to bring at least 250 points worth of HQ.

Biker captain with fist and claw and maybe a librarian? You should be able to hit 250 with that pretty easily. For troops, you can take 1 scout squad in a land speeder storm and a group of bikers with 2 meltas. Something like this

( 170 ) Captain - bike, power fist, lightning claw, artificer armour
( 85 ) Librarian - bike
( 95 ) Scouts - 5 - Land Speeder Storm
( 83 ) Bikes - 3 - 2 melta guns
( 65 ) Scouts - 5 - camo cloaks

infiltrate the scouts, try to smash things with captain, librarian does stuff, bikes pop things. Could go entire bikes if you wanted too.
