Hi people. So I might be interested in starting a Farsight Enclave army. However, I'm not really familiar with the Tau tactics. What is your opinion on this list for a semi-competitive list ?

Do you play in a meta with nothing but Air Force lists? By my count you've invested 180 points in Velocity Trackers which is overkill unless all you play is flyer heavy lists; especially considering you have two Skyrays which are capable AA unto themselves.

More generally, I would recommend you split up your Crisis Suits into six units of one and your Broadsides into three units of one. They are too fragile to play in large groups in this meta. This will also allow you to re-purpose your commanders.

In a semi-competitive list, having commanders be damage dealers themselves is very cool and being BS5 base they can be really effective. Soup one of them up with the Iridium Suit, Stims, Shields and 2 weapons of choice and you can give the other one longer range weapons to plink in the back, or maybe experiment with the Coldstar suit.

If you're going to take a Railhead, I'd find the points for Longstrike. Tankhunter and BS5 really help, as well as his "super overwatch."

Anyway, good core for a semi-competitive list just needs tweaking.

I play with a lot of AA simply because you can never predict when you'll encounter a cheeser.
And yes, I could simply play with a select few, but then again, that would be like staying in a safe space, listening to news sources that only share my views and reading only books that I know will confirm my views on the world. It isn't mature. It's better to play with anyone, but be prepared for hell.

I tried following your advice.

What about this one ?

You're still wasting too many points on VTs, even if you run into an idiot running 9 fliers, you can just play to the objectives and win that way. The Skyrays alone are contingency plan enough; anything more and you're just hurting the TAC ability of your list against most opponents.

What Shrike said and I'd like to point out your using Tau Empire signature systems in an Enclave list which is not possible. I'd like to suggest you swap the Iridium Suit to the Talisman of Arthas Moloch. It has the same point cost with a 5+ invuln save and helps you counter psykers with 4 Deny The Witch rolls on any friendly in a 12 inch bubble including the bearer.

I think you are allowed to take both types of signature systems now. I'm too tired to oook it up but ask them over in You Make Da Call.

Update: Not definitive but one of the best Tau tournament players in the world has both systems in his list.

You had me curious so I looked it up. Originally it did say "may not" and now says "may instead" with a supplement update a year ago. Depending on what you bought and in what format between now and then the wording could be different, but it's still valid by updates and FAQ even if it says otherwise. Nice little tidbit to know since before people allied in regular Tau Empire to get them.
