Hey, GW files are pretty darn expensive, and my older marines need a bit of fixin' up. Any cheaper, better, alternatives to these options?

Plenty of options, ALL of GW's tools are just rebadged anyway.
You need to look for "needle files" and any decent hardware store should be able to get them.
Also see about some file cards (aka "file cleaning brush" - they are broad, short-bristled wire brushes used for getting the crud out of files).

Harbor freight has a dope needle file set for super cheap. I love them and have had em for YEARS! Second on the file cards!! They make your tools LAST.

Also check your local auto parts dealer for automotive detailing files. These should be small, encrusted with diamond dust rather than having grooves, and very inexpensive. Very useful for filing metal smooth after other, more aggressive files do the bulk work.
