Executing Exarch

Hi folks! So I'm going to working on a high elf dragon for WHFB (stock image):
But what I want to do is to take out the rock that it's launching itself from (not a fan of models taking their favourite rocks with them into battle unless they intend to throw them at the enemy).
I've picked up a spare GW flyer stand, but it seems far bulkier than I would like (I'd have to ruin a large underside area of the dragon to get it to fit), but any thinner stems (such as the one from the Phoenix) seem too thin (ruddy Goldilock effect).
Can anyone suggest a third-party company that would do a similar stand (i.e. transparent, plastic, tall enough etc.) that is sturdy enough for my worried mind?

Why not a painted metal pin
you could also always go get some acrylic rod in a good thickness

Yep, either metal or acrylic rod would be what you're looking for, and a base thick enough to secure it.

To give my Eldar Crimson Hunter an alternative base, I used 1/8" brass rod (might have been 5/32"), bent around a peanut butter jar to give it a constantly changing curve. Used a Dragonforge base,

drilled at an angle to receive the rod. Using green stuff, I filled in the cross-slot where the GW flying stand is supposed to go and drilled it. Painted rod flat black.
No pics available atm.

Not keen on metal, but will have a look into acrylic, thank you.
Yes, acrylic rod certainly seems like the plan. Will I be able to attach it to a base securely? Plastic glue?

super glue and probably some green stuff. or you could always build up a small ruin out of plastic or resin and drill into that so you get like 1/2 to 3/4" thickness to keep it secured.

Won't work on acrylic. You might be able to find some glue or solvent that'll work on acrylic and polystyrene, but you could also try the putty sandwich. Push the rod into position on the base with some putty; let it cure; break the rod, putty and base apart; and refix all of it with just a little superglue/cyanoacrylate. The flush fit provided by the putty should create a pretty strong bond.
Bah, ninja'd.
