Hello!

So I've recently begun the process of repainting out all of my Dark Angels in Pre-Heresy colors (Using a lot of heraldry and checkered patters as well).

My question to all of you is this: I have mainly Mk7 Power armor with a few other marks thrown in here and there. Would all of you feel as though I'd be called out on the regular for such if I wanted to play 30k Dark Angels with some of the Eagle Armour? It's mainly the tac marines. The specialty gentlemen I've decked in other forms (or robed armours). I.E. Robed Destroyers to escort my "Cypher" Moritat.

From what I have seen, from people online anway, is that you'll get negative remarks for running Mk VII armor. Personally I dont care beyond they shouldnt have the Eagle. Otherwise just call it a variant of Mk IV or V

With a bit of filing you can turn mk 7 legs into a decent approximation of mk6 or mk 4. Or add rivets and cabling and call them mk 5.

you might get some comments, but I doubt any will actually be super negative.

as for Mk.7, you could explain it away as late heresy. Personally, I like the look of Dangles in MK II or III

You might get bit comments about cheapskate and there is some fluff contradiction as fluff implies that the armour got in use during end of HH in earth system.

As Mars fell to Horus, the new type of armour began reaching the Loyalist Space Marines on Terra and Luna.

This would mean most likely candinates that had this armour during HH were White Scars, Blood Angels and Imperial Fists so you could easily use that armour type for those and theme it around siege of Terra.

Dark Angels meanwhile never got there during HH. Only after it was done. So fluff wise best justification would be they got some suits after it was done and this represents force they had just after it(maybe on their way to Caliban). Crunch wise that would be still HH list so could be usable justification. Albeit very narrow time frame.

But still your army, your models so if you want to go there go for it!

One big telling point is the eagle symbol on chest. If you were to say file eagle symbol of it would become much more passable older mark of power armour.

It depends on what your hobby is in my opinion. If the models are nothing but necessary tokens or markers to play a game, and you want to play 30k, then whatever appropriate models you have are fine, and the worst an opponent can say that needs to affect you is to withdraw from the game.

If you are on a budget that want to try the 30k army selection rules, by all means use what you've already got, as long as it's clear what is what. Same as above for your opponent's comments.

If you like the fluff and want to build an army that reflects that, then I'd go with the intended heresy range, as that itch won't be scratched if you look at it and see the things that are 'wrong.'

Personally, I don't believe that the fluff and crunch have to go together on the gaming table, it's just a game, so as long as the rules are followed and fun is had, I wouldn't mind.

Honestly, the biggest tell-tale is the mk7 heads and eagles. I even think you could get away with keeping the eagles if you swap the heads for Mk4 or a third party conversion set (Maxmini Steam Knight or Anvil heads, say).

I think if you just try and keep them as-is, you'll run into a lot of issues with people that feel that is doesn't really look or feel like a 30k army.

Of course, the other option might be to just buy some new tactical marines and keep everything else - the robed guys and most of your vehicles will translate to 30k just fine...
