I am assuming that the Dread Mob list, the Grot Tanks, and Zhadsnark are no longer legal in 7th edition since you can no longer download their rules from Forgeworld?

I mourn the loss of my beloved Grot Tanks, but alas... Dread Mob list was on its last limbs anyways.

I apologize if this is yesterday's jam and I am late to the funeral.

If it isn't that means I can be excited to updates elsewhere as well.

You know how long I've been wanting a Badab update?

I don't think they're illegal just because you don't have direct access to their rules (especially given that you have access the moment you search it up online). I'd see it as just an oversight. Also, given that IA8 isn't available either doesn't mean all the stuff inside is invalidated, so I wouldn't worry too much. Anyone who doesn't let you use the stuff from Dred Mob would be someone I probably want to play against anyways given how little of it is competitive.

I found it here: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/resources/fw_site/fw_pdfs/Warhammer_40000/Ork_Dread_Mob_Army_List_Update.pdf

What constitutes a dead list? I thought Codex: Catachan was announced as dead, but I assumed that if it is no longer available from the source then it is dead.

That link is probably leftovers, but if that is enough to keep it legal then by all means I will keep using my beloved Grot Tanks!

idk, it's still on the resources page it should still be good. iirc the IA series are getting redone to update them, IA8 is probably up for that so no sense selling any more old ones but they'll still support it.

In any case, I'd keep using them until ITC says something. They have a lot of influence on how people play the game. specifically because they've spent a lot of time cleaning up GW's mess for them.

I sent FW an email about the outdated Ork rules last week. They replied that updating them would be a great idea, as this is what I suggested. Don't know if coincidence or not, or if it'll happen.

Fw tends to stop selling books when thier production run is sold out and when models in the book are no longer produced. Sadly orks have a Fukton of models in IA8 that are discontinue. Nearly half that book is either no longer produced or never made models. I'm holding out hope that gw and fw do a major ork release.

There've been rumors about an IA8 update for close to two years now and we still haven't seen so much as a grot's tooth to show that it's actually happening. As much as I love my ork army and want updates and new releases, I feel like GW and Forge World pretty much see orks as the "generic baddies" that are simply there for everyone else to stomp on these days. I'm not holding out much hope that we'll see any sort of updates anytime soon.

I've been thinking of doing a ork dredd/kan army or a blood angels dreadnought army.

What do you think would be more fun? More competitive?

Ork would be more fun. Going all in on walkers might not be the worst, there's some decent options (Get the dread mob update from FW) and pretty much all the formations are walker based.

Blood Angels would have the edge competitively though. Better delivery mechanisms and upgrades.

Orks also could be cheaper since toilet paper tubes and cereal box board can make a ton of kanz/dreads for peanuts.

It is exciting that the update might come out for Dread Mob.

I found out that I can take the Kustom Stompa in this escalation league I am a part of starting at 500 pts. It is classified as "upgrade for HQ" which is the exception to all the combat patrol rules that the league put in place. I asked the TO and he said "Do it, I dare you".

Unfortunately, I decided not to for the first game but with 750 coming up.... I can simply upgrade my Big Mek to Buzzgob to Kustom Stompa and be within the "Building up escalation" rules. This being the response to facing against WAAC Optimized-Tau in the first week of this Casual-League.

Side Note: For the purposes of Grot Tanks does Buzzgob count as a Big Mek or would his Big Mek Stompa? Buzzgob is like the Big Mek of all Big Meks so if Mek Gunz can't be taken by Zhardsnark then I think Buzzgob counts toward Grot Tanks.

If you have the models and rules they are fine.

Certain TOs may struggle with the list cause of the hiccups in how to play it (particularly including CADs across IA8 and the regular Codex) but seriously,.. how many tournaments do you go to a year compared to just playing your friends?

I'm playing a list soon of Mekadread, megadread, grot tanks, grot battle tanks, using the PDF and IA8 book next. Good opponents don't care about stuff like this much.
