Have a 3000 point game coming up. Was thinking that Custodes allied with Mechanicum might be pretty synergistic as they have complementary capabilities. A small contingent consisting of a Magos, thallex, and maybe a thanatar depending on points: thallax give good mid and back field troops and mess with infiltrators. Thanatar would provide some high strength pie plates.

I am not certain what mechanicum brings to custodies (and vice versa) besides just efficient points. You could fields a table of a cybernetica magos, castellax, thanatars with custodes and it would not be bad. Those units are good on their own. Custodes are like less mobile ursarax to be honest. You trade mobility for a little more versatility. But custodes need a delivery system, ursarax are self contained.

I can see an Ordo Reductor allied detachment working well with them, compulsory thallax get to ignore most terrain as well as pinning checks and the MORAT with potms would give the custodes some serious blast templates as well as free phosphex!

Not much choice when it comes to anti-aircraft threats for the mechanicum though.

They do bring one of the best AA units in the game, the Vultarax. Which is something talon currently lacks.
