Subject: Looking for Feedback on our first Battle Report
Hey there everyone. Looking for some feedback on our first battle report. No safe spaces needed here, but it was a lot of work to put together and we want to keep doing them so tell us how we can improve with constructive criticism and let us know what you thought. If you like the channel and videos, give us a like and a sub, thanks everyone.

Unpainted Ork stuff? Must of been really well painted in camouflage as I didn't notice any Ork stuff in that IG vs Inq video... so maybe not 'nuff said'
For the video itself I am not going to beat around the bush but hopefully be a bit more useful. I was not much of a fan with the following reasons (in no particular order);
The camera work is sloppy, shaky and often not pointing at the right point.
The sound is poor with the music and voices getting muddled.
The terrain is awful.
Getting confused with names of things and how they work is annoying.
If you are going to talk to the camera then script it.
The pacing through out is questionable, for example when you bring in the 'Termies from 1030 till 1600 should have been edited to last about a minute.
Lay your mat flat!

I personally don't have much interest in 500 point battles between two armies I don't collect (or need help beating) but the report itself was alright I thought.
Terrain and armies looked fine to me even if I am used to a higher standard for terrain.
Really I think your reports will be great if you change two fundamental things. Fix your camera to a stand or something to keep it still, and perhaps adjust your microphones.

My feedback is that I prefer photo battle reports to videos. I know that may not be what you meant when asking for feedback, but that's just my honest opinion on how I like to see battle reports. For me personally, it's easier to enjoy a battle report without disturbing those around me if it's photos and a camera moving all over makes me ill.
But keep the battle reports coming in any style you choose. They are always a good inspiration and a way to get a taste of gaming excitement for those of us who don't play as many games as we would like.

First off, thank you for the battle report. All content is appreciated even if it is not necessarily something I would watch. I am not going to nit pick about terrain/painting. The fact is there are a lot of studios that do batreps to sell their stuff, you are not one of them so I don't expect amazing looking pieces. You can make more/better terrain in the future.
I liked that you went over your armies in the beginning and why you picked them. I prefer a visual list I can look at with units and wargear. When you are talking about your army actually show your army, done tell us you are taking terminators show us the terminators you are taking. And from there if you want to go into more detail of your army I am happy to hear it.
I liked that you explained the special rules for the formation/detachments you took. You can explain wargear and army special rules and things like that because not everyone collects those armies and it is useful to know. Do not explain basic rules like what the relic is.
This is my personal opinion and maybe others feel different but I do not need to you guys roll dice. I prefer a recap of all units at the end of the turn. Just tell us where they moved, what they shot at, who died. If you want you can give the rational behind what you did. If you shot at a unit because you found it the biggest threat or because you wanted to clear off an objective etc.
The benefit of a recap of the turn is that you are not trying to hold the camera in one spot which is shaky and lends to the bad camera work. If you are serious about this you might also invest in a tripod to stabilize the camera. You also have to be careful of moving the camera while zoomed in as it leaves a lot of time just on empty space.
Finally I like a tactical wrap up at the end, where you can say what you liked or disliked about the army, where things went right or wrong. How you can improve.
Hope you continue making stuff, thanks again.

Try doing a photo battle report next time. A few reasons for this are:
1) It alleviates the shaky camera issues.
2) It minimizes any undesirable banter, as you can proofread, edit, etc.
3) You can position the camera for more epic, 'cinematic', if you will, shots.
4) You can storyboard the report and make for an interesting narrative. This part is quite fun.
Keep it up with the terrain building and and painting. Most everyone's models look a little rough at first, but you get better with practice.
As has been stated already, sometimes rather indelicately, it will help to have all of your models painted to at least a tabletop (3-color) standard.
There are many excellent resources for inspiration and help with painting and modelling to be found here on Dakka Dakka and elsewhere.
I confess that I actually enjoy that part of the hobby more than playing the game.
If you would like to see some of my favorite examples of narrative photo batreps, look up the ones by Thor665. The camera work is sometimes a bit blurry, but the models and terrain are very nice.
Anyway, thanks again for the batrep, and I hope this helps.

As a youtube who makes battle reports my self, I know how hard it is. And I know how long it takes.
And in no way in hell am I perfect with my reports. I know where I need to improve.
1- Miniatures should be painted.
When I started of, I made the same mistakes. If people are watching battle reports, they dont want to see unpainted miniatures. So pls take your time, and paint them. Or comission some one to do it for you.
2- Tale set up.
Same stuff as with miniatures. Terrain should tell a story on the board. Look at striking scorpion videos! His terrain and table set up speak for it self.
And the mat should be flat.
3- Camera work.
I am guilty with shaky camera work. And I am trying to fix it. So should be you.
4- When telling your army list, show the models next time. We came here for the models.
5- Ignore the people who tell you to do photo battle reports.
Its up for you to decide which battle reports you want to make.
If I am a Hesbirger person, and my friend is a macdonalds person, I am not going to tell him to switch to Hesburger because I prefer it more. Its his choice and he decides where to it.
