Hello!

I've played an intro gaming of AoS last week and I'm considering buying an army. For years I've been very competitive player in other games, and I'm looking for best possible army list I manage to build. In my LGS we are playing right now only 1000pts games and I would like right now an army list for that amount of points with a possibility to expand it later for 1500 and 2000. I'm liking the models of Wanderes a lot, but i think that Sylvaneth are also really cool, same as Icewind Assault. Reading through rules I came up with something like this. Do you think it is good, and can it expand well on more points?

Allegiance: Order

Leaders
Celestial Hurricanum With Celestial Battlemage (320)
Celestial Hurricanum With Celestial Battlemage (320)

Battleline
20 x Glade Guard (240)
10 x Glade Guard (120)

Units

Total: 1000/1000

Order gunline w/Hurricanums is a powerful list at higher points values, so no concerns there. But for 1000 points you may not have enough separate units here. As compared to a 2000 point game you have half the army but the same number of objectives, so armies relying heavily on behemoths and characters aren't as good. Accordingly you may find that its worth dropping one Hurricanum for maybe 10 more Glade guard (as a separate unit) and a unit of Kurnoth Hunters with bows (note this is one of the more OP units so for a competitive list you'll be taking them at higher points anyway).

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Thanks a lot for your anserw!

I don't worry right now for objectives, because in my LGS we are playing right now without any sceanrios. The one who kills all wins I think that after we learn how to play the game it will change and will shift more toward scenarios.

I was also considering Sylvaneth only army. Is it good competetively? Is this start collecting worth buying, and what would you suggest to buy eventually to reach 1000pts and 1500 pts?

Hurricanums and Kurnoth Hunters are a match made in the Celestial Realm, but Heelanhammer has hinted heavily that both will be going up in points for the GHBII so that is something to consider!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Oh well if there's no scenarios go for it. As for Syvaneth, I wouldn't recommend starting a competitive-minded army with them right now since point increases for the more OP models are imminent. When that happens it will be one thing to have Kurnoth Hunters as a unit in an overall Order army, but quite another to have an whole Sylvaneth army based on them (which is what you would be looking to do).

Which actually brings up a good point; Stormcast Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows are likely more 'nerf safe' since they just got a cost. Like the Kurnoths, that cost is well under their performance on the battlefield so they are well-suited for competitive play. They already hit on 2s, but a hit roll of 6+ deals mortal wounds so buffing them is still useful. The aetherwings that come with them can also be useful to block enemies from getting to your other shooting units.
