I recently got into 40k and I've found that my current level of skill with painting minis not good enough to repeatedly fail to get my vision of an original space marine army across. After looking through various services, I ran across PaintedFigs.com. The service seems almost too good to be true.

I figured that DakkaDakka would be the best place to find out the most current information.

I think I've heard of them.

*looks*

Ah, Navin. That's definitely familiar. Yes. Heard some horror stories about him here on Dakka. Here's a thread from The Distant Past (tm):

So yeah, they're established. Had some nightmares, but everybody does, sooner or later. Legit enough it seems to me.

Edit: Looking at some of the reports from back then though. Eesh. I think I'd avoid. Sorry if I was too positive; didn't spend time reading around. Definitely caveat emptor.

Basic rules with booking commission painting:

1) You Get What You Pay For.
Consider the living wage for the painter. Expect to pay at least that. Expect a decent high-end tabletop job to run at around 2 hours per model. Don't expect to spend less than an hour a model unless you want it to be gak.

2) Communicate and agree your needs IN ADVANCE.
Give as much information as you can. Refer to existing pieces in the painters' portfolio for standard of finish etc.

3) Consider location. YOu may need to ship to/from the painter. It can get expensive. If declaring the value of the paintwork in the value of the returned work it can be REALLY expensive for customs etc.

In short, be clear, be sensible and you should be OK.

Runnin up on ya.

I used them for a small project...a loooong time ago (several years). Quality was fine for tabletop (which is the level I paid for) but to took several months to receive.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Looking deeper, I'd probably avoid them. Some really shady stuff in the background.

Had the misfortune of using these guys about 5 to 6 years ago. I found the painting ok....if you want basic table top standard that most 14 to 16 year olds can pull off after a few months work. It is nothing special and you do get what you pay for. I found them not worth the effort.
