I am a very new player and I am trying to figure out how to use formations and detachment. So I understand you get bonuses when you fulfil the requirements. But there is some things I don’t understand

question 1: does detachment and formations stack? Say if I play the ork horde detachment and at the same time fulfil the ork warband formation do I get all the rules benefits?

question 2 : I bought Grukk face ripper (he looks awesome and the squig will be named after my friend and opponent ) I understand he can be used as a warlord since he is a character, but can I use him to fulfil the role as a war boss to get the formation bonuses or is he just locked to the sanctus reach storm claw formation? (guess this question can be generalized to otter unique characters also)

Hope I can get some helt since I find this very confusing

1) Models can't be used to fulfill multiple detachments/formations at once so you can't do this

2) Formations list what units can be taken in it. If a unique character isn't on the list then it can't be taken

The only thing I would add to what CrownAxe has said is that some Detachments are made up of Formations and other individual units, and these will allow the units and models incised to belong to both the larger Detachment as well as Formation they are a part of.

These Detachments will explicitly tell you this is the case, though, and otherwise models may only being you one Detachment at a time. This is explained in the Choosing Your Army section of the rulebook, under 'Detachments'.
