It's not listed on GWs site. Anyone know what is going on?

I noticed this about the Dark Angels Codex as well. I mentioned it to my local GW manager, and he said that they were probably just moving to softcover.

Here is a thought... probably unlikely, but just speculating.

The DA codex might get a rerelease with information about running the fallen including new formations coming with gathering storm 3.

The Tau codex wasn't really a full 7th update. It was a reprint of 6th with the addition of a Tau decurion. Maybe Tau is also getting a new release with some of the information from Kouyon/Montka put in there.

They didn't fully cancel the hardcovers when they released the softcovers before. So.... whats different this time?

They did fully cancel the hardcovers when they released the softcovers before. The move to softcovers means that the existing stock of hardcovers is gone. You might still find them on shelves somewhere, but buying via the webstore equals softcovers.

DA and Tau have been softcovers for awhile, along with MT and Guard.

My guess is they ran out, and their printers are swamped printing up the next batch of Gathering Storm books.

Looks like a regional issue, because the UK site is perfectly happy to sell me a copy.

It's a strange one for sure. Softcover Tau Empire is something that I can go down to my local GW and get, and I know the damn book was up there on Friday.

Most likely it's a webstore snafu.

Seconded. Stupid fire warriors that look ugly and stupid as hell.
Giant mecha suits always look cool though!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Maybe we'll all luck out and the squatting of the Tau will coincide with the release of a new Tyranids supplement.

People don't understand the concept of a straight man

Or people think that if any army is good for an edition or two or should be deleted as punishment.

I think most people are just mad because Tau currently have a few really good units that might be undercosted and are strange (giant robot being a monstrous creature instead of a walker).

I am filled with Tau hate. I've been trying to get over it, as my reasons are mostly unfair, outdated and silly. The hate's still there though, I can't deny it.

When they first came out I thought "what's this anime nonsense doing in my gothic horror?" and I also thought that at first glance they seemed too much like good guys. That was crazy, since there is no place in 40k for a faction of good guys, so I went ahead and bought their codex to see what was up with them. Turns out they're pretty much good guys.

Then I saw how well they could shoot. I was mad that the shooty IG army I had started collecting was outclassed. Their basic infantry rifle was Strength 5? That's madness! At least they are rubbish in close combat, right? Then I saw the Kroot, who were about as good as my basic boyz in a fight, could still shoot and were cheaper. And they were Strength 4. Strength 4 skinny birdmen, while my boyz are Strength 3? I began to cry bitter, butthurt little nerd tears and all these years later I still am even though that was so many editions ago.

I've learned to like the Tau aesthetic. I don't mind as much that they're so freaking shooty. They probably have new fluff that is better and I just haven't bothered to read it. I'm still butthurt about my boyz being Strength 3, but that's not the Tau's fault.

I still have an irrational hatred of the Tau.

Negative ghostrider, friend just started Tau few weeks back and it was hardcover.

EDIT:
Straight from the GW webstore: "This 128-page hardback book contains"
Probably wanted to sell the more expensive hardcovers in stock, before putting the cheaper and probably more popular softcovers for sale on the webstore.
