Just a Mongol for the Frostgrave Warband. Me and one of the other lads have decided to start another wizard in the campaign as we're a bit far ahead. I'm on level 18 currently.

Got my copy of Forgotten Pacts if you like old warhammer Chaos you'll like the random demons for me the generic monsters are a bit so so in this. What I personally like is this book encourages theme demons designing a group of a major daemon and minor and imp daemons as followers. The scenarios look fun and vicious as well.

So as you might have gathered from my mention of Forgotten Pacts I backed the Nickstarter. This also gave me a box of the Barbarians. Heres a sprue shot.

Personally I really like these barbaric warriors from the frozen north. Big chunky and brutal. Sensibly clad as well. Most barbarian warrior models look as if they are bloody freezing!

As you can see they are heroic scale which means they are distinct to the various forms of Dark Age warrior available. Personally I like them and will be using them for Marauders if I ever play GW warhammer again.

I've also assembled a Chilopendra a scorpion bodied Daemon mentioned in Forgotten Pacts. This Bestiary is a challenge they are all rather specific and frankly I may decide to do something different for a theme Daemon.


I've also got an Irish Wolfhound painted up.

I've also given in and backed Mythic Battles Pantheon. Loved the Greek Myths since primary school and while I'm not that interested in the game Bellerophon dragged me in. The current plan is to back heavily and when I receive my models purchase Victrix ancients to create a Kings of War Basilean army.

That daemon is suitably creepy. Nice job on those models!

These three are Wildebeest Transports from Brigade Models South African line which I'm going to use for the 3rd Witham regiments armour.

Wow, lots of things painted - the Wildebeests are particularly well painted. I like the use of the toy cockroach too

So 2016 has seen me head back to 28mm with a vengeance making a large monstrous bestiary mainly for Frostgrave. I've also started looking for other 28mm fantasy games beyond GW, Open Combat and Kings of War have both been played with Dragons Rampant and Zombicide waiting in the wings. I haven't added that much 6mm to the completed section although I've taken steps to fix that with entering my Reaper Cav in the next Tale of Many Gamers blog. I've got 3 kickstarters expected next year. Massive Darkness, Reaper CAV 2 and Mythic Battles: Pantheon these do mean I'm planning to buy less toys. Equally my Mantic Crazy Box has turned up and the Salamander, Green Rage, Abyssal & Revenant sprues will provide useful skirmish fun and more critters for Frostgrave.

You've racked up quite a lot of finished models this year. Do you know the final number?

Also, you mentioned Open Combat. I backed the KS, and got the book, but have yet to really look at it. What do you think of the game?

Honest answer Josh is I don't and as a lot of what I paint is 6mm it would be hard to score fairly equally counting a base as a model would work I might try and keep track next year. I brought Open Combat at Hereward after playing it with the writer. Personally I consider it an excellent simple system. Last time I played it me and one of the lads understood the rules worked out his warband and played three games in roughly an hour. Short sweet and brutal and easy to comprehend, it's basically Blood Bowl as a wargame. It works best with clearly distinct models and allows detailed variation. I'm keeping it in my bag as a we've got an hour left after something else game......

That toy Cockroach rooting around in the grass looks awesome! What are the wicker shields you're using from? They look neat. Do you hit your figures with dullcoat after painting? I think it would with photographing.

I don't actually just brown ink. The wicker shields come from the Fireforge Game plastic Mongol kit as do the really nice bucklers on the Arabs.

The Tiamat and Starhawk VI enter the fray. I'm still considering what to use as an opposing force any recommendations for monsters etc for them to fight?

I've also finished a Frost Spider. The crackling is a combination of the plastic and the spray paint reacting together which I liked and decided to use rather than treat with PVA.

What's the " tale of many gamers"?

All the 10mm mech's I've been gamign with have been prepainted mechwarrior figs. We bought buckets of them back when they were cheap and divyed them up by color amongst the various club members. However, I've still got second army worth of mixed color units though as well as some metal CAV models that I want to turn into a unified force somday.
