Hello all,

I've done a silly thing. I bought a couple of Xiphon interceptors on eBay because they were out of stock at FW (briefly) - it was a birthday present so I didn't want to wait. It was no cheaper than retail, didn't even arrive in time anyway, they came back in stock a few days later; the whole endeavour has been a disaster.

Anyway, one clear canopy (not pictured in the listing) has lots of bubbles. The other one has no bubbles but is noticeably thicker than the other at one end and is kinda warped. Is that normal for FW? I've had quite a few resin minis from them before so I know what to expect there, but I haven't had anything with clear plastic before. Have I got one of the dreaded recasts? The resin portion of the minis look pretty good.

In case I end up stuck with the damn things (and thank goodness me and the fella both play), is there any way of salvaging them while keeping them see-thru? This is a problem beyond green stuff's capacity to fix (as suggested by the seller)

Really hard to tell. I checked like 5 of the flyers I have from FW and none seem to have bubbles or anything, that would render them useless. Nor any of them are warped.

Scratch. Smells like petrol - recast.

Thanks for checking

No petrol smell.

A little googling since this post has highlighted that the canopy is the same as the Stormhawk and that model looks like it has an alternate build without the clear plastic. That means there might be a spare or two floating around in my group, so all is not lost.

I have had genuine canopies from GW (not FW) that were screwed, one was broken (and it appeared the break originated from a bubble) and the other just had a small bubble.

I just binned them. If you want to fix them, err, if you can sand out the bubble then you can polish the canopy back to a shine, but it's going to be a lot of work. If you actually have to fill the bubble, I have no idea, perhaps you could fill the bubble with cyanoacrylate and then sand and polish it back? I've heard of people doing that to fix flaws, but only when the flaw is near the framework so it going to be painted over in the end anyway.

If you can't find a canopy but can get a bare frame, you can buy clear plastic from a hobby shop and fill in the "glass" yourself.
