I tend to want to play fluffy lists in 40K as I love the lore, but I'm a competitive player at heart. With that in mind my lists tend to be a little bit jumbled so would love some advice.

Supposedly Grav or Grav & Grav Amp is more effective than the multi-melta and plasma... but its very expensive!

What are the thoughts?

I was able to play test the later list last night Vs two different Necron Lists.

I lost the first match by 1 VP, & the second match by 3VPs.

What I found from here is that whilst the bikes are speedy there are only three of them and they can get shot up pretty quick with only a 3+ save.

I love my assault terminators and they work really well in conjunction with the Honour Guard's banner for an additional attack, but they can be unreliable with the reserve roll, and are still subject to being shot at the turn they come down. The inevitable 1's will be rolled!

As such I have opted to swap out the bikes and terminators for a Centurion Devastator Squad in Drop pod. At least that's a guaranteed drop, as its my only pod. I tool them up with Grav/Missile launchers, and they should kill what they came down to kill.

The list is also escalating to a 1.5k.

I will put that up shortly if people are interested to see my progression.

How are you finding grimaldus, what do you do with him and the cenobyte?

He's held is own. When charging hes getting 6 attacks with the chapter banner. More from Righteous Zeal if that's up. Ok hes only strength 6 AP 4, but hes Ok. He's not amazing.

His army wide LD 10 means I don't have to pay veteran upgrades elsewhere so there's a bonus there.

The Cenobytes 6" bubble of Feel No Pain is honestly awesome, & worst case you can use them to tank wounds you would rather have elsewhere. Perfect if you're taking big Crusader squads!

Whats the consensus on alternative power weapons, best to stick with power swords or throw an axe in there?

I feel like your final 1kpts list is relatively sturdy. no obvious failings? everything has a transport; except the Cents? did you forget their pod? or did you drop it for pts elsewhere?

Yeah I couldn't spare the points for a pod, but as they are Las/Missile they already have the range so should take advantage of that as opposed to getting them closer to enemy combat units.

Any thoughts on different power weapon setup on the Honour Guard?
