K so I've finally decided a theme for my personal Astartes chapter, just thought I'd share.

STONE GOLEMS

"From Stone He Carves Us"

Successors of ? Undecided.
Founding: ? I don't really care.
Homeworld: I don't know... Kwykrete III ? Too bad "Macragge" is already taken.

Colors:
Dark muted brown, pale warm grey greaves and pauldrons, burnt orange accent stripes and special equipment markings.
Special and Heavy Weapons guys get burnt orange marks.
Veterans get bone-white stripes.
Officers get bone-white pauldrons.
Commanders also get bone-white helmets.

I still haven't bought new paints so I have yet to test this on the models.

Come from a system with several rocky planets, chief export is stone for Administratum buildings and a Freak Ton of concrete minerals. Probably there used to be at least one more planet in the system, which has literally been mined away. Sold its remaining iron core to the Mechanicus for scrap?

Real hard-working, stoic, salt of the earth, Welsh coal miner kid of culture.
Trainees get to learn wilderness survival skills like How To Eat Moss and Mountain Climbing Naked.
Really get worked up about Marine armor using plates of layered metal-infused ceramics.
Think of themselves as literally made from the stone of their planet, and technically they are not entirely wrong.

Fortress would be carved into the cliffs of their homeworld... then I realized I'll need a lot of airborne support to keep fluffy.
Need to look for cheap model options.

...

Ages ago, after playing Orks originally, I naturally wanted to go with something green and black... but never really got going.

Starting up 40K again now, I wanted some use of orange. Or yellow and black.. or... so I tried orange/black, orange/grey, orange/white... I used the Space Marine Painter a lot. A LOT.

I decided since my wife is doing pastel Easter-egg Eldar, I need more contrast with that. I stumbled sideways into using muted brown and warm grey, with burnt orange accents. And funny enough, suddenly Rogue 1 comes out, with more orange accents added to the army grey equipment too.

So my Emperial forces are dressed like... Emperial forces.

The scheme looks really cool; and it's a nice motif without going overboard

Sounds like Iron Hands successors to me, with malleable iron being replaced by hard stone.

I quite like it!

Yeah, parent Legion could easily be Hands, Fists, or Ultra. Hard to tell just from the current ideas. Not sure it matters absolutely.
