Hi, I'm planning on building a small 500pt force of elder to play in a largely competitive environment against friends. Below you can see my current list idea. I know I will be up against other factions like AM, Eldar, SM, Necrons and tau. I know the tau player plans on taking a riptide and a bunch of crisis suits.
CAD
HQ:
Farseer (singing spear, Eldar Jetbike) 120pt
Troops:
3x windriders with scatter lasers 81pt
3x windriders with scatter lasers 81pt
Fast Attack:
5x Warp Spiders 95pt
Heavy Support:
War Walker( 2x bright lance) 70pt
Total 457pts
What else do you recommend taking and is there anything I should drop or change. I plan on taking runes of fate for the Farseer. Thanks in advance.

tbh, the war walker doesn't really fit in the list. You don't need a model to camp the backfield due to the mobility of the rest of your army, you can simply redeploy wherever you're needed. Having both your lances on a single squishy model makes him a big target. I do agree that you need some bright lances though, so taking something more mobile/harder to kill may be a better option.
You could take two vyper jetbikes with a bright lance and shuriken cannon instead of the walker, which would bring you to 497 points and you'd still have 2 bright lances, but on two separate, more mobile vehicles. A variation of this would be to drop the Farseer's spear, take 2 Black Guardian Vypers with bright lances, and give the Farseer the spirit stone of Anath'lan. The vypers could no-scatter deep strike in to try for rear/side armour with their bright lances, similar to what a war walker could do with outflank, but more versatile. The spirit stone would also make casting those critical powers like fortune and storm much more reliable with your limited warp charges.
Alternatively, you could drop the singing spear from the Farseer and take a Fire Prism tank instead of the war walker, which would again bring you to 497 points. You'd have to make sure to keep it twin-linked with the farseer though, to keep it more reliable.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to go with the fire prism option as this will allow it to fill in multiple roles with the prism cannon and give me the AP3 and AP2 blasts this list needs to deal with a range of threats. Here is my list as it currently stands.
++ Combined Arms Detachment (Eldar Craftworlds: Codex (2015) v2018) (497pts) ++
+ HQ (115pts) +
Farseer (115pts) [Eldar Jetbike, Witchblade]
+ Troops (162pts) +
Windriders (81pts)
3x Windrider w/ Scatter Laser [3x Scatter Laser]
Windriders (81pts)
3x Windrider w/ Scatter Laser [3x Scatter Laser]
+ Fast Attack (95pts) +
Warp Spiders (95pts) [5x Warp Spider]
+ Heavy Support (125pts) +
Fire Prisms (125pts)
Fire Prism [Twin-linked Shuriken Catapult]
Total: 497pt
If anyone has anymore advice please feel free to tell me.

Your second list looks great for competitive play at this points level. Honestly nothing I'd change without compromising some element of the list.
|
3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)
Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan! |

war walkers do seem out of place.
in low point games more so than any the game is won in the movement phase and elder can move like no other. I like the idea of vypers keeping out of LOS from most things and zipping behind cover at a distance assuming your meta uses an appropriate amount of terrain.
