Hey, I was wondering how much of your army can start the game is reserves if you are using a formation e.g. Tau retaliation cadre, where if they all start in reserve they all come down in the same turn. is this possible in a game where the vast majority of your units are in this formation?

Any help would be appreciated!

There is no restriction on how many units you can start in reserves period.

What so you can start with your entire list in reserves? (sorry, I am coming back to the game from a long break)

You can but unless you have rules which guarantee arrival on turn one (such as Space Marines in drop pods), you will auto-lose at the end of the first turn if you do not deploy some units on the table, as you only begin to roll for reserves from turn two onwards.

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Yeah. The game is automatically lost if at the end of any game turn(both player's turns) one player has nothing on the table. But nothing prevents you from reserving your entire army if you want to. Several factions have ways to arrive from reserves on turn 1 which normally cannot occur.
