Hi everyone,

Working on a Tau-looted expansion to the Ork Train. Calling the project "Tau'tin Da Tau"

Plan evolved during discussions with create individuals at Las Vegas Open.... And, involves one car (an aquirium car with squig-fish inside) and a crane to dangle the Tau into the aquirium as squig lunch.

Need to create the effect of an aquarium full of water -- and wondering if anyone has a favorite way to make that effect. Read about several different acrylic products on-line.

Here's a link to our detailed plans: http://battlegaming1.blogspot.com/2017/03/tauntin-da-tau-working-on-new-cars-for.html

Thanks!

Clear resin is your best bet.

Just be aware, if I'm remembering right, that doing it as one big chunk will probably result in everything melting (IIRC, the resin/acrylic products are exothermic). I seem to recall some of those (I recall specifically a model of a shipwrecked Akagi) use colored water or dishwashing liquid. Another option, which I think they may have done for that, would be tinting the sides of the windows and doing water effects just on the (clear) top cover of the "tank" area.

Why not just going whole hog and making it an actual aquarium display? It would probably be easiest, plus you have new friends. Let the betas eat the ork toe jam.

I'm seconding the idea for painting water effects over a clear top plate.

I'd look at some water-based miniature vignettes or dioramas, plenty of potential inspiration there.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Just looking at that display piece, they used a water effects layer on top of clear, you can see that with the thickness of darker blue at the top.

Thanks for flagging the risk of melting. I'd not thought of that at all.

Maybe what we'll do is try out a little bit of acrylic to see if it melts the plastic of the train car when it cures. Will try this on some other cars which don't matter as much. If it does, then maybe I'm stuck painting the effect - or going with dishwasher detergent or something.

While the effect of sloshing water would be VERY cool and Orky, am a bit worried about shorting out the tracks if actual water were to slosh around -- so would need to think of a way to capture the water….

Certainly more Orksperiments required!

Testing is always good, but small amounts probably will be okay. Its just heat produced is proportial to volume of the water effects used, and a bigger chunk has less area to shed heat, especially filling a tank as opposed to a flat "river" or "lake" feature, so it gets a good bit higher temp (if I'm remembering right).
