Just finished a short article for DaggerAndBrush showing you a selection of tools that will come in very handy for pretty much any terrain project. I keep it simple and recommend a number of tools for cutting and measuring; painting, sculpting and engraving; and tools that are nice to have, but not essential.

So if you just started making terrain or intend to make some this may come in handy.

I am not the person behind Luke Towans videos. I write tutorials for my blog DaggerAndBrush.

Luke Towan is the guy with the model railroad channel. I don't think he does commissions. He has a Patreon page through which he gets support and can produce the high quality clips (they must take hours to film and edit).

Many of my pieces are commission work, but as an avid wargamer I make a lot of stuff for my own projects, too.

and yes Luke Towan's videos are awesome among some of my favorite terrain ones! Just proves it's well worth going 'outside' the miniature hobby to take a look at related hobbies like model railroading.

DM Scotty's another youtuber I'd recommend for terrain, though his is about making it for RPG use, again it's well worth taking a lot into consideration when making your own for wargaming. Pretty similar use really.

Totally agree. The model railroad community is often ahead of us in terms of visual appeal and scenics. That said, some of the stuff is only for looking, not touching. However, in most cases you can convert an idea for wargaming use.

What I never understand is the reliance of model railroaders on the pre-painted Preiser figures. A wash and a touch up would really make them look less out of place on a super realistic layout.

I do, but as of now there is not much content. I intend to get into proper terrain building tutorials via this medium, but I first have to hone my video editing skills.

Luke's production values are crazy good and I at least want something that looks somewhat professional.
