Have been getting into conversions lately. My Cyclopea Cabal deserves representative models, it's the MVP in just about every game I play.
Worked on a sorcerer for about a week using a bike and bits from the CSM boxed set. To make it a showpiece, I planned to build out a staff, robes, and some audacious horns on the handlebars to set him apart from other models.
For materials, I used a 50/50 mix of Apoxie and Greenstuff to ensure I could carve / drill into the finished bits. This worked well, hard enough to sand down and drill after curing, less rubbery than GS alone.
I used this mix to do the robes, which spread out over the back of the bike and tailpipes. Used wax carving tools and an X-Acto knife to get a precision fit that still allowed the figure to be removed from the bike.
I used steel wire to create a rig for the head of the staff. It is modeled off the Black Legion logo, but a little more sorcerery. Getting the top and bottom to fit together properly meant I had to solder the pieces together. I was able to file the surfaces smooth and carve the corners sharp once it cured.
With these pieces finished, it was time to assemble the model. I mounted the head of the staff on a piece of styrene and started work on the hands, to have him grasping the staff while holding the other aloft, as if casting a power. Really dynamic pose with a lot of details, impressed myself with my own work and was eager to get onto other details.
It was a cold day, figured I would speed up the curing by putting the model in front of a space heater on a low setting.
Walked away to get lunch. I came back to find the plastic bits had melted. There were obvious deformaties on the bike, arms and head beyond what could be considered usable.
*sigh* Smacked myself on the head before figuring out it's not a total loss. The carved pieces are still there, but will need to be reattached to replicas of the original GW bits. I supposed the melted bike is now scenery.
