Hi all,

First time poster but I browse these threads every once in a while, and I need some advice.

I picked up Silver Tower last weekend and I've started going on the models. I play mostly skaven and don't have a lot of experience painting anything else, so some of these figures are going to be a challenge for me. My painting technique is pretty simple I think, with watered paints and layers of color, and then with a good coat of wash to give things a gritty kind of feel. This works great for my skaven, but I'm not sure it translates well to other styles. I don't do a lot of drybrushing as I always seem to overload on paint and ruin my layering, but I'm trying to improve that.

Anyways! Yesterday I finished a first pass on the Celestial hero, and I have to say I'm pretty unhappy with how he turned out - the gold I was using (Liberator Gold) looks extremely yellow to my eyes, and I don't know how to salvage it barring a total re-paint. Even trying to cut it with quite a few layers of a brass wash didn't do a lot to help. Does anyone have any ideas of how to tackle a fix-up for this guy? I'm not sure if the model actually looks okay and it's just me being used to painting dark color schemes, or if my intuition is right.

MNM gold is tricky and best worked up from a yellow-brown base, rather than starting with the bright yellows and using washes to bring it down.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Maybe try darkening it down with a dark wash then dry brush gold back over the armour? I use this technique to finish my bronze armour.

I'd say it's just huge abundance of yellow already on the model that's making the gold seem off. Our eyes play tricks on us when primary colours are around.
If you cover up the yellow and just look at the gold, it seems to be a normal ancient looking gold.

Maybe repaint the gold into a dark brass. The darkness of it would offset the yellow well and give the model better definition.

Thanks for the feedback guys, you all had really good points. I think he's in a much better place now

Taking photos is so frustrating though, it never seems to look as good as in real life.
