I've got a 1300 point battle against my friend's Iron Hands, and I'm look for some advice/tactics. I get butchered by his grav weapons, and struggle to crack open his vehicles. Here's my list:

Lvl 2 librarian with teleport homer (will roll on divination and telepathy)
Lvl 3 librarian with Liber daemonic (will roll on Sanctic)
3x5 terminator squad with one hammer and one psycannon
Stormraven with lascannons and multi melta
Dreadknight with personal teleporter, sword, psycannon and incinerator

He will use:
Techmarine
Librarian
Librarian
10 marines with grav cannon in rhino (they'll stay in the rhino and shoot the grav out of the roof)
5 marines with plasma in razorback
5 marines with melta in razorback
5 marines with lascannon
3 centurions with grav cannons and flakk missiles
Bike squad

I'm planning on deepstriking the terminator squads, one of which will have both librarians in. Should I put one Squad in the stormraven though, to try and assault either the centurions or the grav tactical squad?

Any generic tactics to follow, when facing a vehicle-heavy force who have lots of grav? If I'm lucky and roll invisibility then my death star unit could be really powerful, but it's unlikely that I will get that power. This is my whole collection of GKs, so it's not possibly for me to add or remove anything from my list

Thanks for any tips that may help me from getting slaughtered

Athens Greece

GK really struggle these days against anything. Your friend fielding grav weaponry makes things even worse since most of our units have a +2 save and grav makes them disappear.

Assaulting out of the Stormraven will provide a degree of safety but you will have to hover meaning that you can possibly loose the bird. Try flank denial and deepstrike everything on one of his flanks shunting the Dreadknight in at the same time.

Anyway with that much grav opposing you don't expect to win unless he makes some serious tactical mistakes.

GK seriously need a codex and some buffing.

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

You're gonna have to go ALL IN on psychic cheese to pull this out of the bag against Gravstar (which is what it looks like your friend is thinking of).

Go all in on rolling for Invisiblity.

Other than that the only hope you got is LoS the Centurions just right so that they can't shoot you, but you can charge him after moving out of cover. But this relies on terrain which if you're new is unlikely to be much of.

Cool so I'll focus all my deepstriking on one flank, and shunt the dreadknight there too. Hopefully that'll restrict how much firepower he can put out. I'll put one terminator squad in the stormraven to hopefully get a devastatingly turn 3 charge on his centurions or something. Should I reduce the Sanctic librarian to level 2 and increase the telepathy librarian to 3 to get an extra chance at getting invisibility?

If you can get a heavy scilencer on the dreadknight for force will help a little bit on the multiwound models. If you happen to get misfortune off as well then even better. A rending ID weapon is scary.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
remember that the grav cannon in the rhino has a range of 12" if the vehicle moves.

Hey guys, just to let you know how it went - I won, but shouldn't have.

My terminator squads turned up in the first turn and I deep struck them on one of his flanks, and shunted the dreadknight up with them. Their shooting was completely ineffective though and killed nothing due to terrible rolls. I managed to get a vortex off but it scattered back towards me and i spent the next couple of turns trying to dodge it (and failing to cast Gate of Infinity).

In his turn he then killed my dreadknight with grav and the lascannons from the razorbacks, and over the next few turns the terminator squads were gradually whittled down by his massed fire. Stormraven turned up in turn 2 and managed to pop the rhino, but that's all it did. The terminators who assaulted out of it in turn 3 had the most feeble round of combat I've ever seen, killing just one centurion when they had Hammerhand and Force in effect, with almost every attack missing. The centurions broke from combat and next turn wiped the terminators out with their grav cannons.

By the end of the game all I had left was one terminator from one squad and my two librarians, and I'd barely killed any of his models - however I was sitting on two objectives and has linebreaker, and with the game ending on turn 5 (lucky for me) I won.

Certainly felt more like a loss though with how badly I was rolling. I don't think I'd do anything different next time, but just hope for better luck, and hope that he brings less grav haha.

How did he break from combat?

He failed his morale check and I failed the initiative check to see if I could keep him in combat. Is that not right?

Ouch. That was just an unlucky combat for you by the sound of it.

You hit and wound poorly.
He luckily fails his Ldr test at only -2. So I am guessing Ldr8
Then you fail to hold him in on a 50/50 roll.

Everything about that fight was negative for you.

Yeah it was awful - I had force and hammerhand off, and charged in with 4 guys with swords and one with a hammer. Out of 12 sword attacks only 4 hit (on 4+), 2 wounded (on 3+) and he failed one of the 2+ saves, so with force I killed a centurion. He did nothing back and then my hammer failed to hit with any of the three attacks. I won combat by 2 and he failed his LD6 break test, but got away from me.

That was the only assault of the game, but my shooting throughout the game was almost exactly the same - missing with well over half at BS4, most failing to wound.
