I am sitting down wondering how to model these dark channeling mandatory ashen circle.

Personally, I am strongly leaning towards using raptors with the heads and boots of warp talons. Of course with appropriate power axes and rakes. The question is, is there a better way to model these very specific ashen circle?

To give an idea of the time frame in the heresy its Zardu's ashen circle during and post calth.

well, I think it comes down to how "chaos-ified" their armour would be shortly after calth. I'd say little in the way of raptor-level "mutations", but I would go heavy with swapping slightly UM looking armour to represent the calth-looting

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I honestly like them as is. They are menacing as hell looking. What I think makes them look evil/daemonic is some OSL akin to this:

Done right, they will look really gnarly without being quite so obviously "chaos-y", which I feel like that would develop further down the timeline.

I agree with you

my thoughts were on Zardu Layak's chapter of the unspeaking. I had read in the lore that they had to be hidden on calth due to the strong taint of chaos on them.

Thus what I was thinking was of using raptors to represent those ashen circle that were under Layak. The ones that had to be hidden.

Its currently my project with the word bearers is to build up a force of the unspeaking. Its just there is not much to go on except the blade slaves and my head cannon.
