At the moment I am debating on what my first army should be and at the moment I am really enjoying the look of the Space wolves and their way of being very HQ and elite based.

But I have been trying to find anything on a good starting army list and haven't found much I like the look of, so I have turned to Dakka.
Simply put can anyone recommend a beginning army for space wolves? My preference would be mainly terminator armor and very up close fighting I have had some ideas from the codex but nothing I can definitely role with.

You love terminator and melee? Its so simple my brother!

Arjac Shieldbrothers formation. (They are all Thunderhammer and Stormshield terminators)


This is your absolute key for the very best close combat terminators of ALL chapters, and quite alot of toughness to go with it.

In conjunction with arjac shieldbrothers you have a variety of support options to join the unit in the Land Raider.
- Rune Priest (either as an HQ choice or Rune Priest from the Wyrdstorm SW psyker formation) Go with Biomancy for 4+ Feel no pain for extra tankyness (my favorite), or be a complete bully with Santic powers with Sanctuary giving 2++ Invuln terminators, or invisibility.
- Wolf Priest 6+ Feel No Pain along with reroll 1's to hit
- Ally Blood Angel Sanginary priest for 5+ Feel No Pain at all times.


Along with this for support id suggest perhaps droppod Dreds to steal som attention or/and Relic Sicaran tank.

And also worthy of note there is Wulfen (they are my bread and butter) they are so great. (1 Leader with claws, 2 with stormshields and 2 with axes: Assault frag Launchers on axes and leader).

Another classic is Thunderwolves and Wulfen together great great synergy. But very expensive probably not enough points to have Arjac Shieldbrothes along with this (unless you are above 2000 points).


All this wont win you any tournaments, but it will be effective, and in very casual enviroment it will be perhaps too good.


Final note: Dont go full terminator army that will lead you to dissapointment and frustation, i did that once. Total nightmare, instead of spam, have an elite group that smashes face. There is also Strike Force Daggerfist formation, not the best, but again, if its not for tourney play, i think you would enjoy that aswell

Space wolves? Thunderwolves, wulfen and the minimun units that make a list legal.

The Space Wolves Start Collecting box is very popular aswell, and a lovely formation comes with it.

But you want terminators and machoness you can skip it and go for Terminators and Land Raider and Arjac, but down the road you should get it. Great value! And abit cheaper way to start out aswell.

I may get both, add a bit of meat to the army and give a nice bit of fast attack in those thunder wolves
