So I am a bit confused here, when I talked to the GW rep today, he said with the fall of Cadia book you can use any of the imperium forces together, mix and match however you want for the most part, but if you want to use the special formations and detachments, you have to use the mandatory units like you would from any other.

Problem is I am not seeing anywhere in the book where it says I can do that.. And thats why I bought the book. In fact the formations and detachment it includes EXCLUDES ALL MY IMPERIUM STUFF (3k+ points). The book pretty much exlcudes half the chapters.. Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Space Wolves, and you can only use Skitarii & Cult Mechanicus in there 2 specific things..

The book pretty much allows Imperial Guard and Space Marines, with no named characters... This doesn't sound like what I was told and even asked him today to clarify on (I forgot the book so I couldn't show him but he knew what I meant). Am I missing something? Am I allowed to make a mixed bag of a army as long as I have the Fall of Cadia book? Or only the actual limited number of factions it states.

Because if he was wrong that means I can't do a Dark Angels/Space Wolf/SKitarii army I was working on.. And I don't have any of the codexes or models for things that are allowed.. Which means I have to throw a few hundred more dollars to even use the book..

Just ally them in using normal cads or formations. Nothing really changes that much.

As in have my Dark Angels be my primary, then use one of the detachments from Fall of Cadia? Problem with that is the pointage.. Usually 2 HQs and 4 Troops(Min), problem with that is its pretty much just the Base Space marines, Astra Militarum and the more expensive stuff. Pretty much excludes all named chapters. (Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Space Wolves, etc) So I would be stuck using basically Ultra Marines and Imperial Guard specific stuff. Especially annoying considering I don't play Ultra Marines or Astra.. And with no codexes for them makes these formations pretty useless to me considering what I was told by a GW rep.

keep in mind that the Catellians detachment requires MINIMUM 2 HQs and 4 troops, so it's not going to save you on points in that regard. (clever of GW ) really the big advantage of the castellians detachment is if you want to spam troops from multiple IoM armies. unless you're spamming TROOPs, the advantages over an allied detachment are non-existant.
