Hello fellow battle brothers, corrupt heretics and xenos filth!
I'm very new to Warhammer miniatures, but I have played many 40k video games. I really enjoy the lore of the Salamanders Chapter so I have chosen to begin by building a Salamanders army.
I've started my collection with a Start Collecting Space Marines kit, a Space Marines Commander (bought on a whim, my first purchase), and a Librarian in Terminator armour.
I've also been given 5 models of Blood Angels Death Company Assault Marines and 5 models of Grey Knights dudes with personal teleporters by a very generous person at the local game store. I just need to do some research into allying forces and try to figure out how to incorporate them into my army. Or try to convert them into Salamanders.
I enjoy fluff, but from what I've read, a strict adherence to the Salamanders fluff could be quite crippling against certain armies where, for example, flamers aren't very effective. I agree with the argument that a good commander would never choose to leave more effective weapons behind and instead bring less effective weapons because they like them more. The same can be said with land speeders and bikes.
I've seen many examples of people magnetizing their armies (which I think is friggin awesome!), and it has inspired me to magnetize some of my units. I don't have many units, but I have many plans! So far I have only magnetized my Space Marines Commander, Librarian and Dreadnought. I also plan to do the special weapons/heavy weapons models in my tactical squad. So far I have found I really enjoy painting and assembling the models.
This forum is a great resource for new players like myself. Thanks for accepting me!
