I'm having trouble finding information about warp storms and their effects. I know that they can be big, swallowing whole sub-sectors making travel and communication impossible; but, that's about it. Do warp storms only effect the warp? Or do they form in real-space as well? If I had a form of FTL that was not warp dependent, would the warp storm impede me? Do warp storms make it easier for demonic incursions to happen? Time seems to move at different paces in the proximity of warp storms, does this mean that those physical location enter the warp for the duration of the storm? What other effects could a warp storm have on real space?

Particularly fierce warp storms spill out into real s[ace and are visible.

Wjat non-warp FTL could you have? The only race with that kind of tech was necrons, and that's been retconned.

In extreme examples planets can enter the warp.

The effects on real-space vary depending on the strength of the storm but they generally include hallucinations, nightmares, time distortion, increased psychic activity and instability in psychically sensitive races and warplight illuminating the night sky.

I don't see why a warp-free mode of FTL wouldn't work. That said, the warp may indirectly affect it through the aforementioned effects

Warp storms do make it easier for daemons to manifest.

I've always figured the warp bled into real-space rather than the other way around.

I think the best way to think of warp storms is they can do anything the story needs them to be able to do. That is what they are: a literary device. Given how the warp and chaos as been described, a darn good one too. They are almost equivalent to, "A wizard did it."

You want to cut on a planet, system or half the galaxy?
Warp Storm.
You want to prevent travel to these worlds but allow communication?
Warp Storm.

You want time to move faster, slower, in reverse or all three?

You want butter to taste like margarine and margarine taste like butter?
Warp Storm.

Like Blackhair Duckshape, I have always got the impression that warp storms are the warp bleeding into real space. Of course, the Theory of Relativity might have a deamon say that a warp storm is real space bleeding into the inmaterium.

The answer to most of these is Yes.

Warp Storms definitely don't only effect the Warp. Warp Storms cause the barrier between reality and the warp to become thinner, and if they are particularly strong they can spill into realspace. Not to mention they will have nasty effects on sentient beings, particularly psykers, in the affected area.

As for the possible effects, it could basically be anything. Exposure to the warp could lead to massive amounts of corruption, both of sentient and non-sentient life. Daemonic possessions and thus incursions will be more likely. Daemons will find it easier to maintain corporeal form in areas where the barriers of reality are thinner.

In the event of a total breach between warp and realspace, bits of both will bleed into the other. Portions of reality will enter the warp, and vice verse. This is essentially what the Eye of Terror is, a massive permanent warp storm with massive chunks of both dimensions bleeding into the other.

Theoretically, non-warp dependent FTL would function normally as long as a warp breach isn't involved. But the only species that has ever had a non-warp related FTL was the Necrons, and thats been somewhat retconned. So everybody is going to be hosed somewhat. Webway travel would still work somewhat, but it will still be effected. The Webway is a pocket dimension that is both in warp and real space, so a breach between the two will effect the webway partially.
